I think it's the right decision considering how unfinished the current system is. However, it's a pity that I spent 45 hours on getting unlocks I could get in 10 seconds now. ;-) |

Not only did they add milestones, they also made them easier the third one is 17 achievements. And Ambassador finally fixed yay. |

By the way - if anybody still wants to idle e.g. for hats (STFU Saint :-P) I found this little thingy here: http://www.sourceop.com/modules.php?nam ... pic&t=1611 It simulates idling in TF2 without the annoying server search and system resource usage. Wheee! P.S. No, it's not a tool for stealing your Steam Account - it was written by the admin of the SourceOP tool - a nice, not yet finished administration tool without TF2 support yet AFAIK - apparently it has a remote admin interface in which you can even move players by hand or spawn items. Itsa najs! |

I advice not to use the tool. VALVe is aware of it and is working on a 'proper' response to it (anyone remember the milestone unlocks etc?) |

Yeah - the Steam Achievement Manager. I used it back then and didn't suffer any repercussions. The trick was to not unlock everything at once like a dork. ^^ But yes, I agree with Saint that you should always be wary of such tools - you are breaching the license agreement after all (third party program hooking into Steam). Nevertheless don't worry about permanent bans and such - the prog doesn't go anywhere near VAC secure servers. I seriously doubt Valve can even distinguish between this program's connections and real client connections without doing some tricky update to the client first. P.S. The tool seems to have some problems now with servers saying that the client is out of date. Perhaps Valve already did something. Update: Never mind - it got updated. ^^ |

Your client sends all sorts of data to steam, more then the gameservers do.

Yeah, I realize that but I checked out that Drunken F00l dude and he seems to be pretty competent when it comes to all this server stuff. He's also a prominent member of the HLDS mailing lists. I think his program emulates most of the common Steam system calls... |

By the way - the new version of this tool allows you to display what other players are getting. It's very interesting from a statistical point of view. With ~2000 players on the idle server they seem to be getting ~20 items per minute. Also, only one every ~1000 items seems to be a hat (this is also indicated). These values are much lower than I expected, I must say, and explain why many players didn't get anything after many hours of gameplay with the "drop system". |
