Okey, here goes

I've had some wierd internett problems lately. My dad upgraded our network so it's supposed to be faster. He is connected with a cable. My brother owns a mac and he can connect to the internett without a problem. When I try connecting with my laptop, it works fine. But when I try my stationary CUMputer ( Yes, CUMputer) I get a problem. I managed to connect to the network we have (I'm using wireless, with an USB stick. SMC I think it was) but I am not able to use the internett.

Usually when I have problems connecting to the internett, a simple restart of the router does the job, but not this time. I tried re-installing the SMC program for my CUMputer, but it didn't do anything. I tried using another USB stick, but that didn't do it either. Sometimes when my internett sucks red ballz, atleast Skype manages to connect. But not even the mighty Skype is able to connect.

I checked around on the internett and tried something. I opened DOS or "run cmd" and entered "ipconfig"

It showed everything except standard gateway. (I will update this thread with more information when I get home, maybe with a picture or two)

It's horrible playing on the laptop, and I want my good old CUMputer back up and running with ze interwebs.

Help? :roll:

Did i mention poor signal yet?

Get urself a wire!

If your Cumputer is connected to the router but you are still not getting internet access it could be something simple like one of the other devices on the network is using that private IP address..?

does the router run DHCP or do you asign static private IP's ?

It's deffinatly connected and the signal is great :

"Connected to - "Network name"
Signal : Very good"

Don't know if this helps, but it says its sending out alot (I think around 8000 + or something) of.. things. But reciving 0 or around 7-12. (Can check the exact amount when I get home.)

Im hoping to get a wire up to my room. The router is almost right under me, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem to fix that. I would do it myself if I could, but my father says he will fix it. (In a 100 years...)

sounds like this could be part of the problem if you're not getting a default gateway; try putting everything to assigning/acquiring Ip addresses automatically (that is, use DHCP). otherwise, check the it's not your security (WEP/WAP codes etc) that's not being bitchy and blocking you out, it's happened to em a few times.

Here ya go

For my stationary :

Windows IP-Configuration
Quote:
Ethernet-card Wireless internettconnection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix : alfanett.no
IP-Adress .......................... : 192.168.0.113
Nettverksmaske (Networkmask?) : 255.255.255.0
Standard gateway ................ : (blank)
On my laptop :
Quote:
Windows IP-Configuration

Connection-specific DNS Suffix : alfanett.no
Koblingslokal (connection local?) IPv6-adress : f e 8 0 : : a 5 4 1 : a 2 9 1 : 1 3 6 2 : 3 1 7 9 % 1 1
IP-Adress .......................... : 192.168.0.107
Nettverksmaske (Networkmask?) : 255.255.255.0
Standard gateway .............. : 192.168.0.1

Hope that may help. I still think the problem with the standard gateway.

put your IP settings(for your wireless) at manual and use:
IP-Adress .......................... : 192.168.0.113
Nettverksmaske (Networkmask?) : 255.255.255.0
Standard gateway .............. : 192.168.0.1
Primary DNS: 192.168.0.1

Any idea how I do that? Setting my IP settings for manual?

Thanks!

Weird that its blank in one....

What you could try doing to make sure its not a IP allocation issue is force local IP's into each machine including the wireless card and see if it happens.

You could even move it from a 192.168.*.* address maybe go for a 10.10.*.* I am assuming you can configure your router's IP as well?

So then on every interface hard wired or wireless always gets given the routers local IP as a single DNS and Gateway.

If you dont know how to do this I'd be happy to right you down the steps.

Dunno whats your OS version but the universal guide goes like this:
* Find your network connection
* Properties
* Select Internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
* Properties
* Check the "Use the following IP adress"
* Fill out the form, same with the DNS under it

Go to start -> settings -> network connections

Right click on your wireless connections, go to propperties.

Now select "Internet protocoll TCP/IP" and select propperties.

Now you can set it to manual and fill in those details.
