Reading the various setups we all have i can see it varies so the question being - AMD or Intel, nVidia or ATI(AMD) which do you prefer and why?

Please note: Users can select 2 answers; a CPU and a GPU

I've always had intel/nvidia but since I should be getting a new pc sooner rather than later I'm quite interested in the results of this poll and the why's ^^

Hope it doesn't attract to many fanboys (you know who you are ;p)

It depends, if you don't mind how much you spend to get the very best stuff, then its different compared to getting the best price/performance stuff... In some ranges it really doesn't matter which one you choose. Are you thinking of the high range stuff?

I generally believe AMD cpu's are icky. Intel's aren't.

not really that fussed about graphics card brands, the only thing that really matters is price vs the sort of performance I'm looking for, and nVidia have been best so far at hitting the sweet spot.

How can you not go for ATI if it's price vs performance you're after? :p
The 48xx cards are damn good and cheap.

last GPU purchase I had was when 8800gt's were pretty new, and they certainly were the better buy at the time, if I recall correctly.

Always buy what's better on the market. :18

(Except for gfx card... if ATI isn't top, I just wait another year...)

Yeah at the time of the 8800gts/x Nvidia were way ahead, then the 4870 kicked Nvidia's arseholes, especially in price vs performance. I think it has kind of evened out, although we shall have to wait and see what the DX11 card does for ATI.

The poll really needs the best performance / price option added. :18

I have ati card on my laptop and drivers for that are the worst piece shit I've ever used. It just randomly shows some errors, sometimes I got bsod with driver fail message etc etc.
Also, I think nVidia is way better at making cards, ati is just following them with some delay :)

CPU, well... I've always had Intel and don't have reason to change.

PS: This is probly my last post to this thread. I don't want to argue about this. And you won't change my mind :4

CPU: whichever offers the best price to performance ratio (went through both AMD and Intel CPUs)
GPU: whichever offers the best price to performance ratio (so far this meant NVIDIA cards considering my computer upgrade cycle)

Exactly the same for me.

But I do have to say that "morally" I like AMD better than Intel.

For me, I would vote everything.

About 3 months ago, if I would buy a PC then, it would have an Intel processor.
However due to new developments in the AMD Phenom II series, if I were to buy a PC now, it would be with an AMD CPU.

So basicly it depends on the best price/performance ratio these companies can offer me at the time I want to buy a PC.

Now it is AMD + ATI card.
Maybe in 2 months it will be different.

The only brand that I'm actually always buying is ASUS, as they produce nice MOBO and GFX cards.

AMD X2 4200+ (thanks to Saint btw :4 ) + 2 X 7800 GTX

Dont care for the brand, as long as it works and does not cost fortunes I'm happy with it.

I've always used Intel Processors and ATI GPU's. I've NEVER had problems with either, so why "fix" something that works ? :)
