I personally don't see the link between them and animal collective, maybe I just haven't heard the right songs from animal collective?

I would say they are closer to electronica!

Edit: I just checked on wikipedia, supposedly the genre is called glitch and is 'experimental electronica'.

That's Ooah and edIT, I know them from back when I lived in Boston.

Also I don't get this kind of music. Everyone can produce random sounds like that with the help of the proper equipment and software (I'm assuming no instruments at all are involved).

I can appreciate some kinds of electronic music, but just not from an artistic point of view. I just believe there's more content and feeling put into music made with actual instruments.

Hence I second m3n's opinion.

Hmmmm well, I would agree on the point of the intruments part, but I do believe certain people have a lot more talent in the mixing of music etc... If I like the way it sounds in the end I don't mind how it's made (unless of course it's made by killing kittens or something :D). Especially doing it live and keeping the crowd there.
