Hey - have you tried pulling the space bar out of your keyboard? Depending on the type of keyboard you should see a small rubbery thing inside the shaft the key base slides into. They tend to get stuck in a position where they don't touch the pad underneath anymore - this is especially true for keys you use very often.
What I would do in this case is pull out another key like Scroll Lock or Pause/Break and switch out those rubber knobs - you won't be using keys like Scroll Lock or Pause/Break much anyway.

I was thinking about "rubber nipples" but that was too obvious. Most other options would lack the double entendre part - e.g. "rubber nubs" don't have that component, do they? :-\
