Post subject: | Re: Street Fighter IV |
We played online with McMoist today and I tell you what - if you have lag issues, like the match-up of McMoist and me (I knew that from SFIII onwards already), then the gameplay is INCREDIBLY shitty. All you can do is pick a character that isn't affected by lag too much like e.g. charge characters or Zangief because your critical moves with other chars will surely not come out - and blocking? Forget it - it comes out half a second later, perfect for eating that EX Fireball you saw coming from miles away. The only way I manage to beat players with anything but green connections is choosing Blanka and doing balls over and over again. I checked what the delay was between e.g. my standing and crouching animation when playing against McMoist and it was hilarious to see how Blanka reacted a second later. Not to mention the fact that there are hiccups during gameplay when everything goes slo-mo if the lag is bad... From what I see so far the netcode might be worse than in Kaillera since I had some good matches with cookye, Relentless and ZxS before and the input lag wasn't noticeable... If you want to see a player getting owned by lag constantly you can search for darksydephil on Youtube. Yes, his losses sounded like excuses to most people not familiar with SF4 netplay but now that I'm experiencing it myself I confirm that it's absolutely horrible. It's a pity we can't play the game on the same machine. :-( It might sound like "yeah, yeah, players always complaining about lag, cry me a river" to you now but just wait till you play your first laggy match online. You literally won't be able to do ANYTHING sensible except for the most basic things. Even correctly timed combos can be interrupted by your enemies since that's how the netcode handles inputs - prepare to eat some Shoryukens when using light kicks or light punches. |

I played with cookye and bOse (yes, this bOse :-D) and it was OK. I played with some random people and it was OK too. It's just that for McMoist it shows me 4 bars which should be a good connection... Why can't they display loss and ping too? I know most people are morons and stats like these would tell them nothing but for guys like us who have experience with online shooters and know very well how these affect your gameplay it would be nice to have the OPTION of seeing them. Options are good. I only played Player matches - imagine how pissed off people must be during ranked matches. I played a guy with a GREEN connection today - he played Ken. The game was SO laggy, absolutely NONE of my moves were coming out. He was just doing the pattern Ken over and over again and I lost the first round because I tried doing something smart. Then I just held block for the whole time (because I couldn't just time it to intercept his moves - it would fail) and won just because I did sweeps and throws when he whiffed his moves (which was all the time). This kind of gameplay is retarded! I can do 6-8 hit combos because of the easy-mode input in SFIV in offline mode but if I try to do something like that online I'm doomed to fail - all you can do is use absolute basics or spam powerful moves (like Blanka's balls - wait, that sounds wrong ;-). Quote: can we host a server of it? And are there actually more ppl interested in this then only Mcmoist and lim dul?
No - you can't. It has this XBox like Windows Live match-making system. Apparently there are quite a few people interested in it. Cookye has the game now, McMoist, Frosty, Blackhawk and others have declared their interest in it in the Event Ideas poll (12 in total!).

Well I've been playing as the big Russian Bear Wrestler himself Zangief, and I've just come off the back of something of a marathon stretch. It's a little laborious finding people with decent connections to play against, but totally worth it. I'm pretty solid with the big man and I pretty much won the majority of the matches I played. I imagine when the game is actually released, it will be a lot easier to find people to play with. Not that it's exactly that hard right now. It's good fun actually and hopefully they'll do something about the lag so we can all play each other. Gonna play Cookye after his PCW. Hopefully we'll get a decent game going cause unlike Lim-Dul, Cookye isn't a spamming bastard ![]() |

That's why he loses against you and I win, McMoist. :-P At least with Blanka - or Sagat against Gief. ^^ He did say that lag affected him heavily though. You have to perform moves slower than usual since the game drops inputs when it's laggy. I played a guy from Germany today who seemed to have a green connection but the match itself ran at like 5 fps - my guess is that his computer was shitty and that's a thing that Capcom didn't have to consider on the XBox 360. And by the way - I'm annoyed by all the smug people dissing "spamming moves" - there are a lot of them on Youtube when commenting on matches by the best players in the world like Mago or Daigo - if the game was that easy everybody would be doing it and nothing else. It's called zoning, a.k.a. keeping the enemy at a certain distance and most characters have their own ways of accomplishing that. If you can't handle e.g. Fireball zoning or don't know how to deal with Blanka's balls (he, he) then perhaps you're not as good as you claim (Ryu is a 6-4 match-up against Blanka) and certainly won't go anywhere once good ranked players start appearing. :-P Learn move priorities - Blanka can be e.g. light-punched out of the air. |

Post subject: | Re: Street Fighter IV |
Don't give me that bull crap Lim-Dul. You can call a turd a Candy Bar but it's still a turd. Just cause you rename something, it doesn't suddenly make it better. Spamming is spamming. It's cheap, it's stupid, and most of all, it's damn boring. I like a fight made up of second guessing and skill, with changes in position and having to think on your feet. All you were doing with Blanka was crouching down and basically firing yourself forward or up. And if you missed you would back off to the point until I left you alone so you could do it again. The only time I wanna see players backing off like that is when they're against the ropes or low on health. Then I would consider it a legitimate tactic. But not for the whole match. You're like the kid who played Blanka in the arcades on Street Fighter II, and all they ever do is spam his Electrical Charge move. Nobody likes that shit. I mean, you can argue that the top players use these tactics, and I know you watch a lot of their matches. The truth is though, they're all pretty dull. I've watched matches where they've been getting kicks in then running away and waiting for the timer to run out. That is just shit. Ask anybody here what they'd rather see on TF2, a frag video with a Pyro using Blowback to fire opponents into the air on fire, then taking them out with the Axtinguisher when they come back down. Or a Soldier who can hit opponents in the air with rockets. Or would they like to watch a 4 minute frag video of a Demoman laying stickies outside the opposing teams spawn. Cause in my eyes, it's pretty much the same thing. Sure it's effective, and accepted, but nobody wants to see that shit. Especially if that Demoman boasts like he's the next big thing to happen to Team Fortress 2. [SpA]Lim-Dul wrote: That's why he loses against you and I win, McMoist.
And seriously, what is this all about? The lag issues with the game basically null any games we've played. And you were the one shouting down the mic about it, or did you forget about that? Or was that just cause I was winning at the time? Honestly, you watch a few Japanese guys playing the game and build an arcade stick and suddenly you think you're Jesus Fucking Christ's Second Coming. |

Post subject: | Re: Street Fighter IV |
Oooh - McMoist - it's on. ;-) I for my part didn't see absolutely ANYTHING impressive in your gameplay style - you claim you're so damn exciting and the only combos you pull off are crouches to fireballs for two hits and you don't seem to know anything about move priorities ("Buh, buh, bah, bah, can't beat Blanka with Ryu cause he does his ball move.") - not to mention the fact that you don't seem to know a single set up for the Ultra and just release it randomly. It's just reckless and if my moves came out you'd be hard pressed to land a single hit but what can I do when you jump in and instead of a Shoryuken get a HP that trades. You're good with Zangief since he isn't affected by lag too much and doesn't require sophisticated combos - with the reduced requirements for spinning piledrivers where you can do a 270 instead of a 360 it doesn't matter if part of your input is dropped. I'd really like to play you in a lag-less environment - then we'd see how good you are. So far I think it's me who won the SFIII tournament final 3:0 against you as far as I recall - on a 10 Euro gamepad, Mr. "I played all the Street Fighter games, read all the mangas and watched the movies" - ha, ha. *zing* The thing also is - contrary to what you said I didn't actually say anywhere that I'm such a good SF player - just that I'd like to become one. I even commented on the final that it was quite bad on my part, Mr. "I don't mean to toot my own horn but I just destroyed all the guys I played" (quote). ;-) |

Post subject: | Re: Street Fighter IV |
How the hell do I claim I'm exciting? If it's exciting to not want to end every match on a sleep inducing stalemate then yeah. And what the shit are you on about, move priorities? It's hard to prioritise your moves when the games lagging all to fuck. Of course, it's not hard to pull off a charge move in those sort of conditions. Is it Lim? And it's not hard to constantly key in the same commands over and over and over and over. Especially if you're just pressing the HK button. What is difficult is trying to compensate for slowdown and lag spikes all the damn time. And what the fuck are you on about bringing up animes and comics and shit like that? I don't remember watching the animated film and Dhalsim and Ryu sat down to talk about what moves Bison would pull off that have priority over his. 'Ryu, you have great potential. But if Bison pulls off the Head Stomp or Scissor Kick, start spamming your Fire Balls until he loses consciousness from sheer boredom' I know you're not particularly familiar with this concept, but it's for sheer entertainment, and pretty fucking shallow at that so I'm sure as shit not going to learn anything about playing the game from it. So you can shove your zing up your pompous Polish ass. And it's all fine and well wanting to be a good player, I could never fault anybody on that, but it just seems like it's at the expense of the enjoyment of the game. Fuck it, if that's the game you want to play they I'll stand there and 'ZONE' with you. I'll stand on the spot and spam projectile moves with you until the timer reaches zero. Person with the most health at the end wins. And yes, I have played and owned pretty much all of the major Street Fighter games on a lot of formats. But here's the thing mate, although unfortunately it was never really the case with SFIV, I always owned and played those games with my mates. Either in the Arcades or at home. And it was always for a laugh. And yes I would say I am good at the games, but it's probably just sheer repetition over the years. I would never have dreamed of crowding round the TV for a game of Street Fighter Alpha 3 and spamming fireballs. That would have made me as popular as.... Well you I suppose. That might not, in your mind, be applicable here but the fact of the matter is I don't want to play this game to impress a bunch of douchebag commenter's on Youtube. I want to play it cause we have a community of guys here who I already know I like to game with so it just seemed natural to do it. [SpA]Lim-Dul wrote:

Yep - you taught me stuff and then I got better at using it - no wonder - I haven't played any SF title since SF2T with my friends on the SNES and initially didn't think about reading anything up on it either. Also - I'm not a flowchart Ken anymore - I'm a flowchart Sagat. :-P I learned some basic 3-hit combos and set-ups for the Ultra though I can't use the former when I'm lagging. :-\ Quote: Without me you'd still be spamming HK and HP together with Fireballs and Dragon Punches all the time - always remember that
