I watched this video when it came out and immediately signed up for a beta key.

It's a really great idea and it could really revolutionize electronic communication.

This is so incredible.
It must become the future of the internet.

For your users, for starters, they get to use a very familiar UI, but for those of your users who have wave accounts, they get to walk around the web, and aggregate the conversations they are interested in, into the web client, so that they dont have to go back and check ten thousand different pages wether someone repsonded to them. Which will make flamewars so much more effective.
:ugly:

What I would like is a proper RSS read and search function..... Like, you put in all the RSS feeds you want. And then you can use ONE box to browse through them all, one at a time, or you can search within them ALL at once. For example, if I wanted to search for a specific event in the news, but had no idea which of the RSS feeds I had added carried the news, I should be able to search them all in one go!

I skimmed through it because well after 20 mins I didnt see how "revolutionary" or even evolutionary this is...

Its basically from what i took from the first 20 or so minutes.

A visual centrally hosted storage system where all your emails/info/embedded info is stored and brought to. And vice versa. So if its stored there you can spank it out somewhere else i.e. your embedded website bit...

I dont see whats great about that? Its just an instant client forum -.-

If Ive missed some kind of major feature please enlighten me... sure itll make my day 3 clicks shorter. But heaven forbid I actually store my information in storage, discuss and post this info on forums/blogs and actually email people/instant message them (oh but your convos save! ... get a forum thread or a decent memory -.-)

Centralizing everything just makes it more of a mess. Sure inter communicatons between different shit can be a bit awkward. But just improve them. Dont just bung it all together and presume its evolving internet usage.

Long life those bots then.

As you have seen in the Video, there was also a twitter-bot.

I think it will just as easy to create an RSS bot, which will crawl the various Feeds for you.

I have indeed seen this VID some time ago and also signed up for it. From what I can gather from the video, it will be out/beta/usable, somewhere at the end of this year....

I wish this was standard already, would have saved me a lot of trouble with the barbecue which I organised by Mail.

.....start extending the Google Wave preview beyond developers on September 30th. This will take place on wave.google.com rather than the separate "sandbox" instance we are currently using, and we plan to involve about 100,000 users. In addition to the developers already using Wave, we will invite groups of users from the hundreds of thousands who offered to help report bugs when they signed up on wave.google.com.
oh just a few days left. finger crossed that i will get an invite

this is verrry cool. hopefully people won't be scared off by how many things it can do, and it'll become popular, cos this could be revolutionary. one to watch!

it also makes me wish that I was a programmer so that I could get involved in this sort of thing. but I hate coding... such is life :<

Post subject:  Re: Google Wave

So anyway, I watched the video. Its almost everything the guys at google were talking about 2 years ago glad to see they managaed to make most of it happen. The biggest part of this for me is the html 5 spec.. which I'm just done reading after the last update. Most of what they're talking about here seems to be a framework to utilise some of the more complex aspects of the new spec, saving me the time from writing a javascript api to interact with all this I'm well up for but I still remain unconvinced that the footprint will be light enough for most web sites.

As for the spec it seems we're finaly moving towards a strict standard for the interpretation of the DOM as well as some much needed, and from what google were saying a big help to them, formal convention for common page elements i.e. a <footer> and <nav> tag. The working groups recomendations for new API's to be combined in the HTML5 spec also give us a formalised control to do things that before would require a heavey dose of scripting languages, how some of it intergrates is still veiled by the appalingly acedemic language of the specs but its a step in the right direction.

Combine this with the CSS3 specs and the recent move to bring several scripting languages to the w3c should give us a future web where full web apps can be rolled out faster with out the use of a comping or rapid dev tool like rails, or stupid CSS work arounds. In the end the same problem will remain for the web, browsers. Obviously Internet Explorer will still be 9 years behind the rest of the field in taking up the specs so I'll be hacking that shit from my grave, firefox will continue to bloat untill it requires more rescources than Photoshop, and opera will stay looking like a late 90's amature app.. Safari can just fuck off.

Good stuff from google, exciting time to work on the web.

Google wave is confirmed to work fully on Chrome, Safari and Firefox. It will NOT work in internet explorer, but Google has made a work-æaround. When trying to access Google Wave in Internet Explorer you will be prompted either to download Chrome, Safari and Firefox (Pretty generous of Google not to only add the download link for their own browser), OR you can download the "Chrome Framework" as a plugin for Internet Explorer.

This ofcourse will enable IE to read any kind of HTML5, so I think the web-standards will soon get an update :)
