Anyone else here in the beta?

I think the game is pretty awesome. Never really was hyped up for this or anything, besides I didn't think I would like a super hero game. But with the amount of options this game presents..... just wow.. I must have spend at least 3-4 hours in the character creation screen this weekend just fiddling about with all the options and trying to remake famous heroes and characters.. Well I succeeded in making a Ultramarine (space marine), Jake from the Blues Brothers, Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Carribean and various other famous characters. Its really fun when you are running around and you see what other people have come up with.. or the random button .

After spending hours in character creation, I finally entered the game-world. Here was a tiny dissappointment waiting for me. It seems the game does everything in instances. I really dislike the idea of having 24 little worlds with 20 players or so (that seemed to be the average population).. But with the size of the different maps its not too bad and you don't have to worry too much about spawncamping players who keep nabbing that quest item you are after. So what happens when you get into the game? You go PWN shit, and literally that is what you do. I have tried out a couple of different ''classes" and you can really clobber the npc's. The game divides mobs into different types, you got henchman which are basically meatshields for you to punch the shit out and you can take on quite a few at the same time. Villains who are tougher but you can still pretty much clobber 2 or 3 at the same time. And then you got Super Villians, these suckers are designed for 1 on 1 or team vs them.

It makes for quite a fun combat, you arent forced to just stand still and wait till the mob is down. While in combat you can just keep on moving and use your abilities. With my amunitions character I just spray bullets into the target and keep running around. Looks pretty gangster-like

Anyhow, try to get into the beta and I reckon you will get pleasantly suprised. And if you are in the Beta please let me know, because I really would love to have a superhero team bashing the shit out of villains.

Apperantly open beta starts in a week... So a special attack superteam might be possible at least for open beta >:)

afaik no, you can not be a supervillain. I am not sure though, because you do create an arch nemesis for your superhero.... so dunno for sure.

Played 2 free weeks of City of Heroes/Villians... was quite funny. Saw a vid of CO, but I'm pretty sure that I won't start a MMORPG.

hehe, there are antlers in the costume options.. and I think there is a bird head.. or a mask at least. No zebrahead though.

Well I quite liked what I saw from my limited playtime and will definetely be enjoying the open beta. After that I will decide.

Oh and if you have a 360 controller, plug it in and play the game with that! I SWEAR its more fun and feels more fluid. Also @ minimoose, I found antlers, broken antlers, hooves, stagheads, and fur skins

So you should be able to create a true purple minimoose xD

Also managed to create multiple iterations of Solid Snake in the game. Word of caution though, characters that resemble existing heroes/persons too much might get forced into a costume change. Still I made myself Snake from the first metalgear in the scubasuit. And the other iterations were possible as well xD. Also its very much possible to have your superhero look like a supervillian... I suppose it makes the kiddies happy, because they can look badass! Well I made myself a little flying succubus, and it does look cool

Wednesday and today are stresstests... well and the patcher/launcher is really having trouble. Hopefully it will be fixed today.

Looks like they got issue's again -_- start of todays playtest is delayed

On a note, for everyone who is going to try the open beta. After the tutorial level you get a choice, wether you want to go to the desert or to canada. I personally found the desert far more entertaining.

Alright, from what I have gathered right now the open beta is not as open as it sounds

Apperantly only people who pre-ordered the game and people who got into closed beta are eligeble for open beta. That is what I read on the forums anyhow. So guess we will see monday if its like that or not. I sure hope its not
