Somewhat related: "Lord of teh Ringz0r" was featured in a documentary about nerd humour on TV. The hell.

Lord of the Rings should be featured on a Documentary about the worst, most mind numbingly bad movies ever made.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

When ONE film comes on two DVD's, it's time to get back to the editing room.

It's fucking awful. Especially the second one.

Good GOD! Chewing on light bulbs for three and a half hours would have been more enjoyable.

I read Tolkien's works like 6 or 7 times in total. I didn't hate the movie but didn't see the point in making it since I felt the source material wouldn't translate too well onto the big screen - it's not exactly an action packed story.
Peter Jackson pulled it off as well as he could but I agree with McMoist that e.g. the second part was basically watching people go from left to right or right to left for over two hours. ;-)

The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy Blu-ray (Theatrical Editions ) was pushed back to march 2010  heard the director's cut will be available with the premiere of The Hobbit in 2011.

I'm not so sure. Now they've banned 100W incandescents it just isn't what it used to be.

I dunno Lim, I mean I found the movies more entertaining than the books, the books oh man... I've used it as bed material for 6 months since it was so boring I fell asleep every time, it works better than the pills you take I tell you. if you want some good fantasy there's a lot of much better writers out there, the only reason why Tolkien got so much cred in my oppinion is cause he was one of the biggest "founders" of the genre.... doesn't mean he's good....

I liked Lord of the Rings. But then I like most things because my standards are quite low.

LOTR films > LOTR books for sure, mostly because Tolkien was a pretty terrible writer. brilliant imagination sure - but that's where the merit ends imo, and it's why it makes such brilliant movie material.

I think he's a pretty good writer* - but keep in mind (if you are commenting on the style) that they originally came about as an excercise in language that got expanded into a story, and were pitched either very low (i.e. The Hobbit) or to students of language.
