I want to buy a netbook.

Can I do better than this for around the same price? The only thing I'm not that pleased about is that it comes with xp, I'll probably get linux on it.

I would go for the Asus EeePC 1005HA Seashell has a better battery life and is cheaper

i had an asus eee 1000HE (until i stepped on it) and i found it quite speedy was able to put win 7 on it and it ran fine and the batt life on it was 9.5 hours on the box i got about 8.5 hours on it with wifi enabled so cant complain about that and the specs are similar and i loved it now im stuck with an acer aspire one and it just doesnt measure up to the eee in anyway shape or form

Yep the only difference between the 1008HA and the 1005HA is the battery life on the 1005HA is longer from what I can see.
