I may be beating a dead one here, but I really don't care.
Tribes 1/2 were the loves of my life. Of all the games I have played nothing had the impact that Tribes did. The revolution of playing on vast, open-world maps, working as teams and coordinating attacks was simply unheard of in any game before it.
Anyway, there is no point me trying to sell you on a game you wont have seen, but I have just noticed that Tribes 2 has now become freeware and can be downloaded for the princely sum of sod-all from here:

I would love to see those who never tried it before give it a day in court and I would equally love to see veterans of this great game return to it.
I wont lie: this is a tough game. The learning curve is just plain vertical, but I cannot stress how much it is worth it. If anyone wants to give this a go I am more than willing to talk you through the things you will need to know about it on Mumble. All I can recommend is that you install it and have a go (ignore the patch for now; breaks more than it fixes). The single player is worthless, so just fire up a private server and play DM. The bots are pretty bad but will give you a rough idea as to how to play, but they will miss the most important parts. Traversing the huge maps at speed, sniping and building defences are something you can only learn with actual players.
In a nut shell, this is a fast, highly-skilled, class based game that relies on team-work. If that doesn't amuse then add massive maps, jet-packs, customisable classes, a huge array of weapons (from sniper rifles to mortars) and 3 different tiers of power armour.
What the hell is not to like?!
Anyway, enough shilling, time for bed. Hope to see you flying around on line soon...
