Post subject:  The return of the engis

I've implemented the following changes ON A TRIAL BASIS:

Engi limit for all ctf maps is now 2.
Each team has 3 "parts". Building sentries costs "parts". A lvl 1 sentry needs 1 part, lvl 2 = 2 parts, lvl 3 = 3 parts.

The team can now have:

lvl 3
-- or --
lvl 2 + lvl 1
-- or --
lvl 1 + lvl 1 + lvl 1 (in case there is someone with class limiter immunity)

On 2fort I have disabled lvl 3 sentries alltogether.

This is a test run. If it turns out it's not good we'll have to find another solution. But I believe this could be the solution that everyone can live with.

Interesting solution, but maybe make it 4.
Not that I'm a fan of engis at all, but if there are 2 engis already and 1 has a level3 sentry, what is the other guy there for? ^^
In addition to that maybe implement that, or implement that if it provs to be a good solution, on the normal cp mapy as well with something like a partslimit of 6. 8)

It's creative, I'll give you that. :) And I'm pretty excited to see how it plays out.

Being able to put up teleports and dispensers would be a good start! Plus it might encourage 2 engies working together to protect their only level 3 sentry gun.

Plus a load of complaints but hey we are damned if we do and damned if we don't.

This seems like a very nice feature, but I've got a feeling I'll be spending most of my time on the servers explaining to people why they can't build sentries or upgrade them.

It did not work really good on crossroads. There was only one cap...
Have not played any other ctf map.

I thought this might happen.

It might be necessary to disable lvl3 completely.

I'd give it a bit more time. Even without engies you don't always get many captures.

Give a week and then decide?

Post subject:  Re: The return of the engis

well i've had the trouble of being lone engi deffing intel on crossroads, it is kind of easy to kill one scout, but yesterday 2 scouts cooperated and one used energy drink and the other stole the intel and ran :( . So all you actually need is cooperation, and some crossed fingers that it isnt a pyro or a soldier or anyone near you...

Yeah that is probably best. As you can see from the post before I was giving constructive feedback :D.
But a week is not that much, maybee two weeks?
I should be possible to do a search in the psychostats data and see what what happens with the amount of caps

I'm very happy with this creative idea. Nice work. Now lets see how it turns out in the game... :)

Imo, after playtesting three games, only lvl 1 sentries should be allowed on Turbine simply because a higher level sentry placed on the containers or behind the hp pillar is a %$&% to destroy with all the spam going around. And I don't mean hard, I mean "wait for uber to take it down" since there's also a dispenser around being hugged by about 4 players.

This.

Played doublecross there were engies on the other team and we still won

Played Turbine was engie on the spot of doom, and we lost ZOMG BUT WE HAD DA ENGIE!

Change works fine, scout players will just have to learn that they cannot go around ninja capping anymore. There is no I in team.

There is if your team sucks and you have to carry them. I haven't played since the new system has been implemented, so I have nothing to say on the matter!

if your team sucks they don't deserve to win, now do they?
