Looks really good. Something like that was long overdue.

I like pretty much all of it except: no compact mode, no chat history.
And there is a bug where all context menu have empty strings, so it's kinda hard to use right now for me ^^

Why does it download my games again? :|

I also have the missing menu text problem.

edit:
Quote:
FOUND A SOLUTION!

CLOSE STEAM.

Go to folder
Steam\resource\styles

Open steam.styles on notepad.

Change basefontbold="Arial bold" to "Arial Negrito" (name of the font on my windows PT-BR, change yours to whatever Arial bold is called in your language)

Open Steam
and... Menues are BACK!
I just changed "Arial Bold" to "Arial" and now it works.
They obviously used a nonexistant font.

Yes and no, you can have the typeface Arial and bold it within the software that you are using. Or you can have Arial regular, Arial medium, Arial bold etc :5:

Meh - I sure hope they'll include brighter skins later - I was using the Ice skin previously.

Also, the new interface suffers from graphical overload - the old games list was quite compact, a bit like a windows folder, in the new one, even in list mode, they had to include huge ass pointless icons that make me scroll through my dozens and dozens of installed or purchased games. Of course you can disable the image but then you have no icon making games difficult to find since images are recognized quicker than words. Retarded.

For now the new UI with its dark tone and wishy-washy fonts and graphics gives me eye cancer. I'll wait till the full thing is out.

Bright fonts on dark backgrounds strain your eyes. (Which is also why I hope SpA won't go for a bright-on-dark design if it were to ever be updated :-)

Hehe, yes they will look the same of course. But if you don't have the Arial Family that's when you would 'force' bold the typeface :55

The very BEST thing about this update:

VALVe has ditched the IE rendering and is now using the Webkit engine.

YAY :4

It actually looks pretty good.
Still a bit bugged, but hey...it's a beta.
But I'm already loving it.

Only some few games have to be redownloaded. :ugly:

Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer is one of them ( ~8gb). There is at least one other I read of on the forum but I dont remember what it is as I dont own it.

Don't know why they released the beta if they can't get something important as the ingame overlay to work  . It works at the begining for like 10 or 20 min then is bye bye :18 overlay ALT-TAB ALT-TAB nothing (in all games except in tf2 i'm not sure about that).

I'd blame em for releasing it as full version. A beta is for testing, and were people test you find broken stuff, were broken stuff is found you can fix it for the final.

I know it's a beta but something as important as the overlay to be broken that's just sad :?

really nice and neat layout, but there are too many bugs, but it's a beta but still : p. Could imagine using this if they remove the bugs . sometimes when you're ingame you cant get up friends. I changed back to normal because it was quite disturbing: p

With the style file being quite lot of plain text, it looks like you easily can make your own skin.s

Has learned to write! (188)
I'm now having a first look at the new Steam interface (not the in-game).

First impression: Looks nice.
5 minutes usage impression: AAAAARGH!!!! fuck it.
Negatives list:
  • Webkit is slow, scrolling is slow and shakey (performance issue can be fixed).
  • The big arrows. It took me 1 minute to figure out that they were a back and forward arrow. The meaning and usage of these is not clear and clicking them brings me to unexpected screens a lot of time.
  • If you view all games, it is very unclear which games are installed, they are indicated by a slightly ligher gray, which is very unoticable.
Adding filters at the top to distinguish installed and uninstalled games would be very nice.
Positives
  • I really like the new game info interface, the news and everything related to the game is there at first glance. Also the additional view options are nice, but not the most usefull.
  • Better distinction between stuff you own (Library) and the other stuff (Community | Store | News). It is better organisation the the current mahem of tabs.
I think in some ways this new interface is going in a good direction, but there still needs to be a lot of work....
/me notices BETA feedback form, will fill it out soon.
