I gave in and bought it this morning... wow, its a lot of fun! Played deathmatch and a godzilla match. Really entertaining and you have to be pretty smart and quick about your moves. On top of that the game actually supports dedicated servers (hint saint) and I think would be a blast to play with more SpA people!

I saw an ad for this on Steam and I was kinda intrigued as to what it was.

I hate to be a sheep and everything, but if a couple more people get on board, count me in.

hmm looks interesting. I'll go down the same road is McMoist, if others get it i'll follow. Though it'll probably go down the same road as Zero Gear.

But going off topic for a moment:
McMoist mind explaining the story behind your signature?

I don't want to dissect it too much, otherwise it will lose it's potential to become legendary.

EDIT: Um... What the fuck? I typed l.egendary, obviously without the .

And it came back as POONTANG.

I can't help but feel that Kizron is somehow responsible for that.

EDIT EDIT: Wilderness Girl cookies ftw.

The reasons I think it won't go the way of Zero Gear is that:

1. There is actually some thought required to playing it. You can actually become better at it, unlike Zero gear where it was just luck who won.
2. It has depth
3. It has dedicated servers
4. It is genuinly different and not Mario Kart light. The game that probably comes closest to it is Super Smash and even that is pretty far out.
5. Did I mention dedicated servers?
6. The devs seem to be very active and interested in the community, they post a lot on steam forums and are actively trying to iron out problems.

The Necromancer (4970)
I'll be writing a slightly more detailed post about the game shortly. I was planning to do so today anyway. ^^
It's one of the fun games I've been playing, since I was in the beta for like a year or so. Teaser: very nice short-term entertainment and well worth the money but nothing you'll be playing for hours at a time (especially since you'd get motion sick ;-).

Motion sickness included indeed :P

Its amazing to play for about an hour or so, longer than that and you will cross the line and be on the road to getting sick :P. Or at least thats my experience. But like Lim-Dul said well worth the price and its simply a lot of fun.

you can also move around, block and blow yourself up. Don't be fooled by the simplicity, its all about the mindgames and trying to outsmart your opponent and not who perfected the best button sequence. Less is more ;)

The Necromancer (4970)

So, like I said before this is another one of those games I was fairly interested in and I'm especially excited to see how it evolved from the fairly awful P2P, limited dash, no lock-on early beta last year.

First of all, what's the game about? I think the trailer should explain it for me:

Basically the game is about what the trailer states - killing other robots, gaining energy by doing so and eventually deciding when to blow yourself up to cash in points and perhaps take some other robots with you for a multiplier.

What the trailer shows but does not say is that the game takes place on structures floating in space, each one having their own gravity (if there are multiple ones) - the whole orbiting and viewpoint re-orientation is what makes the game very dynamic and hard to master even from a movement perspective.

Your robot can air dash, jump, cling to structures and lock onto other robots flight-sim style. Once you're locked on you'll hit your target if it doesn't evade you with fancy maneuvers, be repelled if both of you attack at the same time and once you acquire the shield upgrade you can block attacks too.
Your energy level is always indicated by the color of the trail you're leaving behind, going from blue to white, and also by the fact that parts of the scenery light up when you touch them. This makes for pretty visual effects and also allows players to always try to go for the most valuable target first.

The levels are absolutely crazy and really fun to play on - the more open ended ones with several gravitational centers take a while to get used to and are hence better suited for experienced players.
In addition to the default deathmatch there are 4 other game modes, which are fairly standard but have their own "Plain Sight" twists added to them and play out completely differently to other games due to the titles unique gameplay anyway. These would be: Ninja, Ninja, Botzilla! (Man with the golden gun-esque), Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Lighten Up, which is King of the Hill.

The devs are very dedicated to the community, having organized various contests in the beta - some of the map concepts were sketched out by players! - and have a great sense of humor, if you followed their development blogs.

The moment you join your first game everything might seem like a big clusterfuck but with time you'll see that there's quite a bit of depth, especially when trying to gain a positional advantage over your enemy or luring people into your explosion (once you dash into a guy you can't stop it - "Oh shi-!" :-D), not to mention quick lock switching, having 360 degree awareness and knowing when to block or various tricky shortcuts that could break a lock on you, make it hard to follow you for the enemy or even allow to stage a counter-attack.

Ah, I forgot to say that there are upgrades acquired throughout the round. Fairly standard stuff and by the end of each match (if the XP system weren't bugged at the moment :-P) you should be able to afford all of them, so the order in which you take them matters the most.

Don't get me wrong, this is by no means "the next big thing" but it's bite-sized drop-in-drop-out entertainment, which I'm big on at the moment, since Heroes of Newerth matches can drag for a while and are emotionally exhausting.

For just $9.99 I can definitely recommend Plain Sight and I'm looking forward to how it is updated in the future.

Also, here's an in-depth interview/run-through with one of the developers:
