how does showing a film that starts with the lyrics 'I want to take you to a gaybar' and with pretty damn suggestive (if not exactly pronographic, from what was actually seen of it) images, to a crowd predominantly of Muslims who are generally disapproving of such things - and they are (completely understandably) offended - mean that all religion is bad for the world?

I can be offended by religious programs and stuff being shown to me. Do you see me going all mental at such a point? No, what we, civilized people do, is pick up our stuff, and just walk away. religious people, ooooh no, they got to ruin the entire thing, make sure it isn't shown at all. Attack the people showing it physically. Religious people can't be reasoned with. Freedom of speech, the "western" civilization most proud thing, and religions biggest enemy.

perhaps physical intervention was too strong a reaction, but I feel that there's a good difference between what was a purposefully provocative exercise and a disagreement of ways that you can see the world. and I disagree that all, even most, religious people are so out-and-out in their intolerance of all thing non-christian/non-muslim/non-jewish etc. ignorance like this is everywhere, not confined to religion.

So me and scatter and Revenge cant be reasoned with?

All these constant religion bashing threads are not being "mental at such a point"?

Im confused.

These people are offended by this? What gives people the right to think its ok just because they are religious? Its like going to an anti-theist and showing them the gospel, they get angry, and violent to points.

Im sorry that you don't see it this way, but your making your own point invalid by your post.

I live in a flat with 2 very militant anti-theists and you say "what we, civilised people do, is pick up our stuff, and just walk away" Uh huh. We being athiests? Am i not civilised? do i fling my poo? I think perhaps you misunderstand cultural differences and religious differences. In the middle East your brought up on this way, its social conditioning, religious or not, while we are socially conditioned today to have free speech, to think that religion is bullcrap and to think that science is king.

I also take offence to the humanities idea in that picture - its very misinformed.

Humanities is a science - except how can in history for example we claim one truth? there is no one truth, any number of things could happen for any number of different reasons. History is rewritten and overwritten from many different perspectives many with many different motives - Why would a national historian write a history the same as a minority oppressed group for example? they wouldn't, which is truth? who knows; we can only judge based on evidence and our own opinion.

To be honest, I think both Saint and Greasy got a point.

Religion isn't bad.

Fanaticism/extremism is (and that's what the video is showing).

The crowd didn't predominantly consist of muslims. I don't think those guys just happened to take a seat on the first row. Lars Vilks took a photo of one of them before the lecture, and the guy has an obvious sinister smirk on his face.

Damn shame this is the type of people you (me) associate with their religion since the other ones go unnoticed.

On a more racist and probably less suitable note;
Why is it that they're almost always the common denominator when it comes to vioelence or just arguments in the streets?

Just the other day I met a bunch of them who allegedly had troubles starting their van, and needed me to help push it. They were already three people in it, and it was parked in a fucking down slope. I told them no, and the guy shouts "fucking gay" or something when I've passed.

If I didn't occasionally meet reasonable muslims, I'd be lead to believe that violence and hate is in their genes.

Allright Greasy, maybe i'm overtaking it a bit.

The underlying message is more, i see this shit not only on youtube, i see this shit all around me. I see it more and more, and it worries me. It's a straight attack on our freedom of speech. If those bastards would just use the damn rights everyone of us has here in Europe, as the dude say's in the video, go out on the streets, express your opinion there. Stop attacking people at point blank for what they want to say and talk about. If i want to say a religious figure is a fucking cocksucker i have the damn right to well say so without having the fear of being attacked by some random people in name of their believes and their fictional god.

Not *everyone* who i talk to (religious people i mean) would react like this, but its damn scary how many don't disapprove this behavior whenever its in the defense of their faith.

@repel, I said "we Athiests" as in the We saint referred to in "we,civilised people"

@SaintK, but its obvious that person went to provoke a reaction, you say you should be able to say what you want when you want, and I agree, but inciting a provocation is just silly - Its like the BNP going on the streets and telling these asian kids when are they gonna rob him. Its provoking a reaction and its unneccessary, people have freedom of speech to a point, and the point is when its actually inciting hatred or provocation of others - as this clearly is.

If someone comes up to me in the street and starts calling me a TINY LITTLE DINOSAUR ARMS blah blah blah in my face, Ill deck him, hes insulted me and provoked me - its the same as going up to someone and saying LOLGAYSBUMSEXLOLOLOLOL YEH U HATE IT AHAHAHA IN UR FACE HAHAHAHAHAHA. your insulting them and provoking a response, and its unneccesary.

Taking it too far saint, you are generalizing a whole religion on video's you see on the web? Wow.

Bloody hell. You say the religious people are ignorant, pretty hypocritical when you also fail to take into account that the vast majority of these people are not the extremists you see in the media.

One thing I do not agree with though is theocracies, I don't think a country should be run under a religion. This is one of the main problems with the Islamic faith, since socially they are brought up with the outdated rules of the Qu'ran hammered into them.

Let's say we had something called a pope(khalif) before the First World War. He was by chance Turkish(the khalif wasn't always turkish). Now when the war started, the Arabs revolted under the false pretences that they would get their own country(who would trust the imperialistic British in those times?!?).

This is also why there is none anymore. So anyone who has studied the Koran can now say his own interpretation of it. Idiots and retards actually believe the extremist bullshit they say and just blow themselves up by the notion of getting 72 virgins in heaven(its a 72 year old hagg actually in hell). This is only the 1st of many things wich im afraid wouldn't fit in a post if i would write them all down.

These things happen with not the majority of the believers, but the retarted and stupid part of them. Don't mix me and so many others with these fucking retarted inbred dicks.

And you all know how I hate to write long posts.

Goodday,

Sami.

Also I conducted a social experiment on Facebook:
Posting crap about God and Jesus? People telling me to stop.
Posting crap about Islam?
Image
Yeah, that seems reasonable. Wishing death upon me for not holding the Qu'ran sacred.

EDIT: Facebook stands up for the "little man" and deletes my account. Huzzah.
