Hi lads, We received this months payment for the datacenter, turns out we massively exceeded our bandwidth limits on the machine running Minecraft. I'll upgrade the contract for that machine so next month we won't have to pay that much for all the extra bandwidth on that machine. To be able to keep minecraft running i do have to ask the minecraft community if they can chip in a bit as well to pay for this bill. The extra costs for the minecraft bandwidth were 63,- euro's for 636GB of exceeded bandwidth. I'll upgrade the contract to allow for another 1TB on that machine which will be an additional cost of 20 euro's per month. Please check http://www.specialattack.net/donations on way's to donate (Paypal, creditcard, banktransfers etc). Thanks in advanced!

Once I get my next check in the bank I will manage to donate something yet again ![]() Kinda crazy tho, 1.6TB of data for ONE server, and one composed of blocks at that ![]() |

It's not all minecraft. Before minecraft we would do some 600GB on that machine on other data such as mumble, website, forums, stats etc. So I'm estimating minecraft is responsible 'only' for 1TB of data.

"Fun" factoid. Notch's awesome optimized SMP server software eats up 3 Mbps even when the server is EMPTY. On a more optimistic note the creator of Myne, one of the first true fully custom Minecraft servers (later forked, branched and improved) started working and made good progress on Myne2, a custom SMP server. Perhaps this will solve SMP's shittyness. ;-) |

mmm, indeed, though once Notch actually stops traveling and starts working SMP SHOULD improve a lot (one would hope) |

Does having a tonne of empty loaded maps on freebuild eat up memory? 'Cause I do recall Fragmer complaining about the large memory usage (compared to normal). |

No, empty maps are unloaded from memory automatically and re-loaded when someone joins. The only issues is when i.e. we have 1 player, each on a different map. =)

Is that down or up? Cuz I can't even GET 3Mbps up where I live -_- (why I'm switching to a VPS)

![]() Thanks a bunch ![]() ![]() We almost cleared the extra costs, now we're 'just' down to 20-30 euro's on a monthly basis to cover for the minecraft bandwidth! |

As the bandwidth is going to get even more higher than expected we had to upgrade the contract once more today. It's now set to allow 3TB, which i wonder if it will be enough... |

You won't be able to handle the cost if you keep upgrading the contract? |

Overages cost more, which is pretty much universal. |

Or how about this: Whatever money I find in my room after I clean it, I'm gunna donate it. ![]() (Lost a few 20's not long ago and they're probably in my room. xD) So I can guarantee at least 15 Euros!^^ Won't be able to donate too often though, considering I don't have a job x3 |
