I see your point, but whether or not we like it, Scientology is a full-blown Religion and is recognised as such by governments. If you actually read their manifesto it is no more crazy than Christianity or Islam. :)

True, but I still like the fact that France doesn't see it as a religion.. they see it as a cult. Who knew the French would have the right idea?

Well tbh I see it as France having their head as far up their arse as normal
For all that its ideas are whack-a-doodle, they are no more whack-a-doodle to me than any other religion and at least Scientology does not preach intolerance, violence, segregation and denigration of women as part of its core beliefs

Well, France has a progressively secular government, so they're probably just trying to send a message.

And I for one think that any 'religion' that requires you to spend shit loads of cash to essentially be saved, is really just a cult. I doubt we'll be seeing many African states embracing Scientology.

Can't argue with that. I just can't stand Scientology more so than any the others. Though I do have to commend Scientology on one thing: they keep the idiots in one place, if you are dumb enough to pay to gain some level of 'spiritual enlightenment' its nice to know someones keeping tab.

Ah well. You can't take it with you, anyway.

And by that, I mean; corpses that are rotting in the dirt, don't tend to spend much cash.

Fair enough - I am just curious (and I am assuming you are an atheist here - you certainly strike me as one) as to why you think that a religion that wants money and makes it part of its practice of worship is somehow worse than a religion that wants money but lies about the fact. If people choose to find "spiritual enlightenment" through a process that costs them financially so be it. It makes equally as much sense to me as any other method. As I say, its not like the Church of Scientology is being dishonest - far from it in fact.

I'm worried though that if i click the banner, the computer will take over, and scan my face. Which concerns me as the main issue with Scientology is that they perform black bag ops, and ill have that midget tom cruise and his lackys jumping out of van and taking me away to that same warehouse where they store the arc of the covenant in the Indiana movies.

Gotta hand it to Tom though, he managed to go through 10mins of video without saying anything...

(pretty sure thats the uncunt uncut one :ugly: all i think when watching this is, when the bloody hell is the song gonna drop  )

My view; Like pretty much ALL over religions (mostly) they are all based on a Fictional Book written by man; in the case of Scientology... its a science fiction book.
I'm trying to find the south park clip where they explain the religions concept in full detail.

I'm hard pressed to think of a World religion that is more concerned with vanity, than cash cash money, dolla dolla bill y'all.

Christianity is pretty vain sometimes, but that's only cause they wanna show off their incredible wealth. Look at the Vatican.

Go on! Look at it!

To be honest with ya I think its a case of 'I just do', no real reasoning behind it, I just can't stand them. Quite the cop-out, i know but I can see ya point about it.

I'm not an atheist, to be honest I don't know what I am, I don't really mind religion, I have no problems with people following religion so long as they don't make me see what they see. I don't really believe in god but I do think that theres gotta be something out there, if there isn't then it makes it even more depressing the way we're carrying on down here.

yes, look at it...and see how christianity saved us during the dark ages. sure, history proved they're filthy, filthy rich, bloodthirsty and a bunch of others.. but back then, their support for arts was pretty much what kept us from going back to the stoneage.

on the other hand, scientology just means extortion, both financially and emotionally. Their dogma is also retarded. And all their leaders and poster-boys are fucking crazy. Clinically fucking crazy.

So, please, ban scientology adverts. I'd add mormons to that list as well, if they knew that the wheel was invented a while back, and along with it came the internet.

Heh. Was this before or after the Pope put Galileo under house arrest for the remainder of his life, cause he said the Earth rotated round the Sun as opposed to it rotating round Earth? Galileo being one of the most important scientific minds in history of course. And we all know how big a fan of science the Catholic church were.

Of course they supported the arts. They wanted to depict their white Jesus all over the place, cause how do you reach out and touch the hearts of the illiterate with a book? A better idea is to paint him in a heavenly light. I've seen plenty of these paintings. Hell, just walking around the National Art Gallery in London is enough to make even the staunchest Atheist feel uneasy. There is a certain power to these depictions, but that's the whole point.

All I'm saying is, for everything they might have done to push us forward, they were doing equal amounts to hold us back.

Saying that however, I can still appreciate what they done for the Arts, and don't deny that some of the most fantastic works have been born of their collaborations with renowned historical figures.

For reference that makes you an agnostic(http://goo.gl/PzJk) whereas I am what is called a "strong" atheist (http://goo.gl/BIaF) :)

Comparing scientology to other religions is rather silly since I can see why there is so mystery behind the other ones since they are so old. With scientology there is no mystery, it was recently created from a science fiction writers mind. I'm an atheist but to say that religions cause more evil than good is rather ridiculous, the evil is just more publicised than the good (religious fundamentalists are more interesting than the majority of normal people)

In history religion has held things back, and still does, especially in the eastern world (Islam is slowly becoming more like Protestantism, but both Islam and Catholicism still has a way to go yet). I'm pretty sure that most Protestants believe in evolution etc...

I can be confident in saying that religious people are more likely to give to charity than atheists or agnostics, pretty sure the statistics were like 90% of religious people vs 66% atheist.
