Post subject:  Tombstone

I've been thinking of building a cowtown for smp, basicly the town will be a strip of sand that will grow as more buildings are added to it, it will basicly be a row of buildings facing each other, like an old wild west town. It's gonna be drawn out project really, nothing big like the cities people are making. I'm gonna start in the centre with a sheriff's office, a rune, a saloon etc and then if anyone wants to add a house to it they just have to ask, and show me the plot. I wont be charging for plots, they just have to be in theme.

One idea I'm keen on, is making a hotel, or vacant residencies, so in 2036 when we have mobs, guests can just check in for the night if they haven't got a shelter together, and they'll be waypoint for the town near spawn castle.

Why am I bothering to tell you guys about this? Well, I'm stuck on where I should build such a town, ideally I'd like to do a massive /c of sand over an island lol, but it looks like I'll be doing it manually. I mean I don't want to be totally the middle of nowhere, as I'd like a few people to be able to find it, but niether do I want it to become pointless by being close to a city anyway. Perhaps it could be a pit stop on a long journey between cities?

I'd just like some feedback on how I should go about all this, thanks :]

Sounds like a good idea Junco! :D
I think that putting it inbetween two towns or cities sounds like a good idea because we can't be sure whether we are going to keep /tp /warp and RuneCraft forever, with the way Lim plans to take the server.

I think the theme is excellent. Its going to be nice to see a practical design use for cacti ^o^. Perhaps we could even find a spot where the biome turns the plants and trees to a more brown color.

I hope this one doesnt die. I'd be glad to help find an area and start digging away the dirt.
ingame, I'm lcapili.

Yeah without the minimap I'm strugling to find a location, I've had my eyes below cactus bay, the island below azltan, and the surrounding regions, but inbetween two cities is still a good idea. Just don't know where.

That's ^ been some help, but I need some of the people who know the lay out well to suggest a useful place for me.

Hopfully gonna landscape a mass area with a layer of sand, to make it into a sort of plains/desert, once we have cows I'm gonna make some ranches, but for now, pigs will have to do lol

Love the idea, everyone is making cities, with no towns..
Also, this seems like a fun thing to do. If you require any help/resources tell me, and I'll see what I can do!

Thanks :]

Yeah any donations of wood, sand, or fence, just drop it in the chest outside my house. My house looks over the SpAstripmine which is on the warplist. You can't miss it!

Still stuck on where to build it, dont think anyone knows D:

Now i dont know what happened to this, but Pandorum and Yoah were making a road combining Sparadise City and SOMETHING. I forget what though, possibly between sparadise and this other THING?

Yeeeeeehawwwwwww.

Make it in the southern-ish part of Heartland. At least that way it won't have a gay fantasy-based named region, and I don't think there is much development around there. Don't worry about the placement being betwixt two cities. Once we make a road network people will find it.

Post subject:  Re: Cowboy town in smp

Thanks, Ill take a look around southern heartland.
btw I'm pretty sure I was drunk that time I had a rant about the region names lol they're not so bad :P
The heartlands sound like a good name to host a western sorta town though.

I'm still keen on building it between two cities, since a cowtown is essentially a pitstop on a road. I'm gonna check out the road between Sparadise and Kaizoku. So basicly the road will lead to the long strip that the town will be, and the road will come out the otherside.

If not I'll start at heartland and make something for the road to lead to X]

Heartland sounds fantasyish to me! Ehhhhh..

Post subject:  Re: Cowboy town in smp

Yeah SpAradise-Kaiz would be interesting. But that means it will probably have to have something to do with SpAarcadia.

The Region names aren't shit, but they are fantasy-y. Don't call it "The Heartland Pitstop" in reference or anything. Naming isn't that big of a deal, I just want things to put on the map.

I don't really think they're shit lol

Heartland pitstop?? pfft nah It's probably gonna be called Juncoville or summin' XD

Keep finding some great spots, but then I see some piece of shit cobble house, or some random unfinished, and never will be finished stuff. Haven't been able to get to southern heartlands. I keep getting lost lol

Never though it'd be so difficult to get a decent spot, I want the sand area to blend into the landscape, but it's difficult to find reasonably flat land. I mean I don't want to be clearing mountains for a small town :/

If you're gonna chuck it inbetween Sparadise-Kaizoku, leave room for a railway station, I'm planning a minecart thingo for Spa-Kai for some random reason... cuz I know minecarts aren't gonna come out...

Post subject:  Re: Cowboy town in smp

omg a railroad? Cowtowns are basicly train stations anyway, and ideally that's what I had in mind :D

If you build a rail, I'll make the town as a sort of halfway point with a station and tings, might make the journey alittle less tedious.

Post subject:  Re: Cowboy town in smp

Continuing this "Pit Stop" Idea, put the town around Here:

That's where the rail line is going through, if you do, I'll bring it out of the tunnel.

Post subject:  Re: Cowboy town in smp

Thanks man, but I wont be able to work out where that strip is, as I can't get my minimap up and running.

Could you show me where the track would be next time I'm on? or mark it out, it'd be a real help.

Also, is there any news on tracks being fixed? Or are we just planning ahead?

Author:  Ollieboy [ 08 Nov 2010, 22:00 ]
Post subject:  Re: Cowboy town in smp

They won't be fixed for ages probably, but basically we are getting it ready so all that needs to be placed is the track.

Yeah that's a sound idea. What is it that doesn't work or is disabled on smp? Are the tracks just useless, but can be crafted, or are they disabled for the servers sake?

And yeah Hit girl, that'd be ace :]
Would you be obliged in doing alot of landscaping for an honest wage? I'll make you the deputy aha

Lol I'd be glad! It'll be good fun, I can also clear room on my city map for us to make a design!

I have at least 10 stacks of sand you can have. That sand was for my proposed palm islands but there wasnt enough interest and other stuff in it.

Right, so far as I know rails and carts are working, is smp back to normal again now?

I presume people are going to start work on the railroad? and there's going to be double rails to stop collisions. I also presume that we'll need cart depots/stations, to stop traffic and empty carts being left on the track. If so I'll be putting a depot in the centre of the town where the track will be.

Where is this rail going to and from? I'm alittle confused by the diagram :/
'cause I'll probably flatten and cover a massive area surrounding the town in sand, and build the town halfway on the journey between A and B.

I'm going add a J ranch full of cows if I can get someone who can place a cow spawner to help me out, maybe a wooden fort ready for 2036 when Notch fixes the mobs, and a graveyard for banned players XD

I was thinking of calling the town Tombstone :D

Some nice ideas.
One problem with carts though, LOLNOTCH has made them so you can't remove them. Unless, you pour lava on them.
The tombstone idea is actually really good, and it seems very unique.
CAN'T wait for normal smp to be up again.

Lol jks we'll be dead by then.

The railway goes W from Sparadise for about 200-400 blocks, then turns S for about 1.6-1.8k blocks, then turns W again for the last ~200 blocks into the planned railway station on the N side of Kaizoku.

Ok just a quick update on how Tombstone is doing in terms of development :]

There's some pics below of a saloon I made on Orc's server, a design I'll base buildings in the town on, and one of the current site that is till being landscaped.

Oh and Xesdra may I remind you that
