I know that this is good for getting people promoted but i think that it is getting to be a problem because some people wait to grief the main when they become members which is getting to be annoying. we have caught a large amount of members who grief now because its easier to hide your griefing as a member. also another problem that i have sen is telling people about flying on the main when they are just guests because some guests have just got the hacks the instantly went and started griefing. Post your idea on the topic

The Necromancer (4970)
Block tracking incoming. Members griefing = instaban. AND if they waited to become member just for that then bless them - all the more time wasted after they are banned. The requirements for member aren't un-steep.

peter im confused about what you said at the end there, but it seemed like you said you were yelling at guests for having hacks and griefing? Guests are allowed to have hacks at all times. If they grief, kick.

Griefers with fly hacks are so rare that its barely a problem though the amount of damage they do before they're stopped is crazy. Really I think the hack should be for members+, but I don't think the software can do that sooo

The member's are becoming such a hassle, the amount of random cuboids and kick abuse. All you can do is just warn and ban them if need be, there's just no other solution.

I don't know Junco, it seems like that's what the "UseSpeedHack" thing is for (you can see it if you /rinfo the rank). The way it looks, we could take that from guests and they wouldn't be able to use it.

Also, I am in favor of flying/speed hacks being member+.

Though I've seen a few griefers with WoM, I don't think we should simply not let all guests use it. It strongly promotes in-equality, and puts too much emphasis on rank in my opinion. It is, after all, the most valuable tool to use while building, and banning it would generally decrease the quality of builds on the server.

As I've said before- if any changes are to be made with member/guest permissions, I'm voting for no /tp, /kick, or any of those type things- members just aren't set up to patrol.

Christ this again...

A) Members will ALWAYS have /kick to ensure that there is always someone online that is able to kick griefers. Unless kick-abuse gets way way out of hand this is very unlikely to change.
B) Restricting guests from using flight/WoM will not happen. If they didnt have flight we would have even more (random) towering going on.

If the members abuse their commands then fucking ban them if its serious (blatant kick-abuse/grief) or get them demoted if its less severe (lots of random nongriefing cuboids).

Kinda hopeless, but improving (144)
User avatar
Griefing members have always been a problem, but the percentage of benevolent vs. malevolent users has always been high and it just can't be helped...

As for the block-tracking system, I see a couple of possible abuses (not sure if they will happen and I'm not entirely sure how the whole function will be implemented, I'm just guessing):

Just after the main is wiped, a vet+ decides to cuboid the grass (/c grass) of the whole world, and then proceeds with cuboiding the dirt, which in turn will lead to false griefing flag pop out on the server whenever a guest/member decides to start digging and will cause people to be kicked/banned.

Or another example - a member decides to help out with repairing the damage and his /c overwrites previous blocks leading to the said false griefing flag pop out.. I bet there're more out there...

Well yeah like you guys said, it's so rare it doesn't matter. I mean if half of them had it, I'd just runaway crying to smp. Hm maybe we should only advertise the hack to members? Guests have the freedom to use the client, but we don't have to encourage it. Like when a known griefer asks, and goes afk for about 10mins you better watch them real good when they return.

Autoranks are here to stay, we know that, they've created a much better enviroment, however it's throwing up all these bad members. They just kick for anything, even when they hear there's been a griefer, they don't put the reason or anything, and then when the griefer comesback, before they can even leave the spawn, they get kicked again.

Can we blame them? Not at all, why should they know any better? We're punishing them on rules they're not even aware of. There needs to be a clear way of showing them the rules, so they can't claim ignorance. Not handling this problem, is turning a blind eye to a real issue.

There's no consensus about the rules, even when they are writen;

That rule is out of date, then.
Recent actions have show that they're not against the rules, they only are deemed against the rules when used for griefing purposes. e.g building it on someones house.

We need updated, easy to find rules for the new members, this forum is full of debates about wich are the real rules; I like this server but it feels like everyone is always walking on thin ice.

Fine!
Heres my beta rules:

1. No griefing
2. No swastikas (UNLESS on something like a historic German building), if you are caught you will be instantly kicked, and if you make another, banned.
3. No penises UNLESS it's on something like a replica of michalango's David or the like. Also, no statues of people having sex.
4. No block spam
5. No speed-griefing (you will instantly be kicked or even banned if you do this)
6. Light cursing is allowed in the chat, sexually explicit chat is prohibited.

Yeah, very beta/simple, but WAY more concrete. My take on penises is that they are banned, unless they are made as a work of art (and even so, should be on a member world, surrounded by a box). But we need concrete rules like this badly.

Also, is it better to warn before freezing? Like someone griefing, should I warn or freeze then warn (then unfreeze of course)?

You can't just make up rules that don't exist, the SpA servers are aimed at adults, if you can't handle looking at ''naughty'' words then this server isn't for you.
Good intentions, but not really needed.

Speaking as a MC Manager and member of SpA:

SpA servers are aimed at adults, and those rules are out of date and worthless.

Plus you covered your first four points in you first point. Racist builds are grief. Disembodied penis spam is grief. Block spam is grief.

To follow up on Hafnium

The definition of grief
Quote:
grieve 1 (ɡriːv)

— vb
1. to feel or cause to feel great sorrow or distress, esp at the death of someone
2. obsolete ( tr ) to inflict injury, hardship, or sorrow on
I think that explains what grieving is quite well

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griefer
Quote:
A griefer is a player in a multiplayer video game that purposely irritates and harasses other players.
That is what we oppose. If someone makes a statue of two people having sex in some corner of a map with a box around it, they are NOT griefing.

If the rules are out of date, remove them, and put a message saying something like "a new set of rules are being developed, check back soon to find them" so people won't see them and think they are the rules now.

Sorry if this came off as bossy. :P
