Ladies and gentlemen who have decided to embark on the project of city making. There are countless flat patches for planned cities which haven't have any development for weeks. Because of all of these I have denied many enthusiatic players cities because we already have heaps of planned cities. If you have no intention of developing REALLY quickly like SpAradise was, for example, I am canning your projects because it is not fair to those who wish to create real cities and who just weren't quick enough to find a space. Really consider the liklihood of your city being created, and if it won't, then give the land to someone. Thank you. |

you`re talking about the "i flat an area to sell plots" stuff, so our 2-man "city" Rozzlordia (mere a fortified archipelago) isn`t concerned by that, is it? |

Sounds good Ollie, hate seeing unfinished/forgotten projects laying around. For those looking for a spot to build: If you somehow manage to find my home (has 2 big F's made out of obsidian mirrored on it), to the east is a big decent stretch of flat land. Perfect spot for a city or a large build. Right now there is a temporary minecart thing that goes high into the air that I built to test my launchers, feel free to remove that or I will next time I'm in-game. |

We invested too much time in kai to let it die. Anyway, I'm fundamentally opposed to any restrictions on commerce, but this is kinda ridiculous. The question is, is it really damaging to the economy? With duping, I'm saying no. Once the shop is fully functioned, and the dupe bugs are fixed, we need to have serious talks about the economy. Until then, I'm going to let this play out. |

Stage 1 of Aperture is almost fished which is roughly the size of SpAradise (developed by me over the last 6 weeks)Stage 2 will soon be started in the land of eternal darkness under the city. Is that fast enough (considering its 1 person) |

I started Venice about 1 week after SpAradise was finished. Until now, I've done a tunnel and flattened 1 plot. Is that fast enough? >.< |

This is concerning the fact that heaps of people have asked to make a city and I have said no because we have heaps and they are dense. I'm just saying get a move on. Don't make your own city UNTIL you maybe lend a hand to other cities. An alternative, Haf, is getting a bigger radius on Borderlands. Also you guys need to not be selfish. Every player does NOT need their own city! Help out with other cities or something!. Aleries wrote: Ollieboy wrote: ...developing REALLY quickly like SpAradise was.

I would like to help with Aperture, i think you should try reducing the prices of plots which may get more people buying there. Maybe have a weekend half price sale or something next weekend. So yeah, I should be on in around an hour so i'll come and help with aperture if you're there |

I'll take a look in-game, but I think I want to buy lot #3 OR #5 in aperture. I'll look at it first before buying it, but I think that's the one I want. I'll have to sell most of my stash of obsidian though |

Hmm makes enough sense. I will sell my land for what was going to be my future city to the SpA administration or for whoever needs it the most for an official city. I'll sell it for about 500$, the price is negotiable. In the mean time... What city is next on the list and needs some help? |

I don't see why people shouldn't be aloud to zone their cities, and sell plots. Are you guys jealous of the money we MIGHT make? I mean, am i allowed to sell the city itself? Am i allowed to zone it and give people plots? Can i zone it, sell plots, and a chunck of my income goes to you guys, if you want money? What's the problem with people making money? I see the problem with more cities, but mine, and a few others, have been here a while, so why should we have to suffer? |

Dude, jealous? I can spawn money. The economy is becoming a status symbol instead of a tool, and these "towns" are a major contributing factor. SpA doesn't like status symbols overmuch. |

Well i'm building a... lets call it a development for now. Which is a SMALL area with basic supplies, my intention isn't for it to become a large major city but more of a small joining town so there isn't a HUGE gap of nothing between cities. I think we need to clearly define the difference between a city and a town. This is what i believe the difference is. CITY- A large mass of land which provides lots for players to purchase for building on (For the time being i think selling lots should not be allowed for the reason that there is no real way to moderate and tax this and a GOOD system just can't be implemented atm). A city should be mostly paved and should usually have walls and provide access to Xesdrail services. TOWN- A smaller area which provides land for players to build on (I think it should be free but lots should be designated and not as large as in a city). A town should provide open access to surrounding landscape and not be overdeveloped. A town should not be isolated but also not immediately next to a city. Towns should be linked to cities via a path and whoever manages the town should be responsible for developing these links to their town. Towns should provide players with a local area to collect resources without damaging the landscape. Towns don't necessarily need a Xesdrail link since there will be a nearby city but if Ollieboy wants to have stations at towns too then ok. EG, my town currently provides -A small forest which is replanted as required by town officials -A regulated mine to acquire resources -An obsidian machine (As a lot of the time i lost obsidian to lava mining underground for it) Regulated mine means certain players are given access to the mine and then resources mined are collected by the city then made available for players to buy We also regulate where in the surrounding area players can destroy trees and mine to keep everything looking nice. My town is called Xanafaire or Scenic Xanafaire (with a focus on the surrounding environment) and is managed by me and Siggemann |

This "you can't sell zoned plots" makes no sense at all, people buy plots in cities for safety from grief, or theft. Cities cost money and a lot of effort to make, so once you've done it, I don't see the harm in reaping some rewards. If there's a status problem, remove the top ten richest, I never liked that thing anyway. The reason I want to sell plots in Tombstone is so I know people will actually use their plot, rather than build something there and just leave it. I mean I plan to give some plots for nothing anyway, and sell the rest for crazy cheap, because of the strict theme. If people think that's unfair, then they don't have to live in Tombstone. Can't people just pay for zones? I guess this means we're unzoning all the places that have ever charged for plots then? I think it's a real nice thing to have, to buy a zoned plot in a city or town, it's one of the few purposes cities have. It's realistic and makes sense economicaly. Doc's gonna put alot of effort into his city, for it never to be zoned because he wants to reap some rewards from his work, come on guys you need to think this over :/ |

I have no gripe with money as a status symbol, so long as it doesn't become exclusive. That's part of how life works, and while we should tune down the whole has and has nots thing so that people can have fun, there's no reason that people can't become absurdly rich and have that under their belt. |

Alright another scenario, Say I zone my island, (and city) And allow people to live their in plots (which are free) am i allowed to deny people plots? Am I allowed to let someone spend the night in my city for a fee? (when smp is actually survival) Also, will cities already planned and begun construction be selling plots? (Kai, Aperature) |

We haven't decided ANYTHING along those lines yet. Griefing is nearly a non-problem on our server ATM. We don't need a zone for every town anyway. |

Perhaps a zone that just limits creepers from "Building", in the future? I'd have to agree that "Living" somewhere in MC is necessary for players as it structures the game, but I do see the other view as well- that it breeds greed and creates status symbols that are somewhat amoral. Reasons I believe it is necessary to sell them: 2) Un-valued plots from overflow of free plots- could result in worse builds 1) Free plots could create lesser use if given to anyone who logs on (Regulars have more $$$, and will want a good plot) 3) When creepers come about, they could become increasingly necessary for survival. -Putting your stuff inside chests prevents theft in bought plots, as well as saves it from the creepers. 4) They provide at least some kind of large drain of money from people, as money is currently undervalued. If anyone did force people to pay to stay inside a city, then it would also increase the value of plots, with creepers. Though I don't spend too much time on SMP, those are my views on the issue. |
