well, i started up FB bout 2 hours ago. "Ati Catalyst control has crashed and has now recovered." -WoM closes... try to restart "permission exception, press any key to continue" *presses y* -cmd closes start WoM "permission exception, press any key to continue" *presses something* -cmd closes starts up Firefox. BSOD (yay!) i sit there looking at it. i think it mentioned the BIOS started and completed memory dump my mouse was visible but frozen with a blue spinning circly thingy... fans were going crazy so i held the power button till shutoff (i read somewhere I shouldnt have done this, why? how are you supposed to shutdown from a BSOD?) i proceeded to reboot. ... ... keyboard lights slowly flashing. crackling harddrive for a sec or two... no display :/ laptop wont POST knowing the BSOD said something about the BIOS, i took out the HD cover and reset the CMOS by taking out the RTC battery... no luck. tried booting with battery no luck tried booting w/o HD no luck D:!!!! i think I fried my motherboard by cutting the power after a memdump v_v im now on my backup laptop Pentium M @1.73 DDR2 1gig at < 667 integrated Intel GMA 915... no OpenGL = no Minecraft v_v bi guys. wont be around for a while proceed to "WOOHOO!", provide tech support, or explain why "you're glad that bitch is gone" |

I don't think you could have fried the motherboard just by turning off the computer - you're right in that there's basically no other way of recovering from a BSoD... Also, the damage was most likely done by then. If the fans were going crazy it might have meant that something inside was overheating - I don't know where you place the laptop while gaming - I recall that for a laptop I owned it was pretty much necessary to put in pencils under the far end under full load so the heat dissipated better. ;-) It's a pity you didn't read what kind of error it was that caused the BSoD - the BIOS is sometimes mentioned in driver failures (which might stem from hardware failures! ;-) too but it's a safe bet that something went pear-shaped with your hardware rather than software. BIOS resets rarely do anything unless you were running a highly customized or overclocked configuration but it's still nice to see that you were savvy enough to do it. Fixing laptop hardware is a bitch, so yeah, you might be out for a while... |

Yeah, ive had bsods before but ive always just ignored them and rebooted :/ lesson learned. I think i was really pushing my poor hd 3200. thing wasnt meant to run COD on high textures :/ Im looking to build a new computer anyway with my christmas money so maybe ill be able to run minecraft better and hopefully get on tf2 and cod with you boys and girls. *checks to see if this little laptop can play tf2 w/o opengl* |
