Recently, chess has started up, and I am in a school play. (mostly to hang out with friends) However, chess will probably get in the way of my minecraft playing :( Not much, but a little. As will play practice.

I honestly dont know about anything :/ I don't know how national rankings go. Or how my school area specifically does it. I do know that on Chess.com (pretty much where EVERYONE plays online chess) ratings start at 1200 and go up or down depending on if you lose, win, draw, or resign. So in that sense 400 is VERY low (sorry proto) but i think there must be some difference there. I mean, i doubt you're 400 on chess.com if you were to make an account and play. I'm like 850 on blitz chess (which is pretty poor) but thats ok. Seeing as you only go up like 10pts or less, its hard to get your rank up too high.

@ollie, wanna play me sometime? :wink: i'm looking to play anyone so i can get better!

How can a guy be good at chess and fail to i.e. grasp the concept of FTP? DOES NOT COMPUTE! :-P

P.S. I like Ultima better than chess (no, not the video game series, the board game played with chess pieces but alternative rules).

how do those rules work? I think I've only heard of Chess960 or whatever the hell that is. I believe it is when the back row (not your pawns >->) is totally random, with some rules on the placing of those. (ie. rooks have to be on opposite sides of the king, both players pieces must be in the same position, however random, etc. )

And lim, i'm going to read up on ftp and PROVE YOU WRONG. :P I never even got the chance to prove i dont understand FTP by the way :wink:

Yeah, you basically failed at the preliminaries. ;-)

Ultima uses chess pieces but with different movement and capturing patterns.

Lim, looked that up, awesome 8) Me and my buds are going to play it soon. we have an icebreaker tournament at our school this saturday and my best friend and i are playing our first match without blinking :shock:

Baroque chess sounds too confusing. All the fancy capture methods seem to me like they could be a pain.

Holy mother of god they are let me tell you. My friend and I just about killed each other it was that stressful :shock:
