OK so heres the deal. Ollie, Hafnium, Locoman2424 and I have been using a modified version of the painterly texture pack, and since Ollie is building so much of the smp world, it will look best on the pack most like his. I put together a pack with minor changes here and there, try it out. If you enjoy painterly, but think our pack is shit, you can 'fully' customize a texture pack to your liking here.

How do i add a texture pack to Minecraft?

1. Download the HD Texture Fix Patcher here.
2. Open it, Click Browse beside the Texture Pack check box, Find and double click on the downloaded texture pack (it will be a .zip file)
3. Click patch, when it finishes, close the patcher, open Minecraft, and enjoy!

If you have any specific requests, i can put a texture pack together for you.
(ex. You like default iron doors better then the one in this texture pack)
I would just swap them, and send you the updated texture pack.

Please Back Up any save files important to you. If you patch with an out of date HD texture fix patcher it will mess your Minecraft up,
and you will need to re-download Minecraft.
This happened to me, and i was pissed. Lost all my game saves.

How Do i back up my Minecraft worlds?

Click start, into the search box type Run, click on the 'run' application, Type in %appdata%
Go into the folder .Minecraft\saves Tada, there are your saves. Copy them to your Documents or somewhere safe if your worried about losing them.

Obviously this is completely up to you, if you prefer another texture pack or just the default, thats fine. Your loss =P

Official as in: MY ASS.

SMP's official texture pack as backed up by me and many other SupOPs+ is Frenden's Texture Pack. :-P

Frenden's fails. I'm sorry Lim...I will agree with you about most other things, but not this.

Painterly fails - Browncraft or Eyecancercraft (through unpleasant texture blending). :-P
I also like the diamond, gold and iron blocks textured using Photoshop's gradient tool as if we were on a Geocities website dedicated to someone's cat in the 90s. ;-)

Post subject:  Re: Wannabe-Official SMP Texture Pack

Only thing I like about this texture pack are those halfsteps. Those ARE pretty awesome. But the tools/gear and the ore blocks just look... lame.

Frenden is overall better, though I wouldn't mind if that was a bit less colorful/"cellshaded".

Post subject:  Re: Wannabe-Official SMP Texture Pack

There are various edits to Frenden's pack in its official topic - i.e. people making wood darker and such (I actually love the bright wood - one of the things that sets Frenden's pack apart from other stuff).
Yeah, Frenden's is quite colorful but that's because it gives you this "Zelda: the Windwaker" kind of feel. Ah, it's probably one of the mods that looks the best with the Ambient Occlusion patch since for other "realistic" failpacks the shadows get lost in their brownness - better grass looks nice in it too, since i.e. in Painterly it only makes the "eye cancer" effect worse through annoying blending on even MORE sides of the block. =)

I'm gonna stick to the default, it's the most common, and it may not be too exciting, but atleast everything looks alright. I've not been impresed by a single texture pack, they all have something wrong with them, like the painterly diamonds just look like iron, the colour of the wood is ugly and some of the tools look stupid. While frenden's makes me want to throw up skittles.

Most texture packs look like they're gonna throw you into some turn based combat with crumby story lines, while lolnotch's texture is simplistic, and reminds me of good times on the Sega

Right, to sum up, don't try and impose official texture packs, because that's not fair on people who think your favourite texture looks really lame.

Frendens is fail... I hate everything looking cartoony. Bright with no texture. Might as well go play tetris

And at least i actually mentioned HOW to use the texture pack. Instead of, here it is. Use it.

If I didn't know better I would almost think you were American based on that comment Destoned. Also no texture? Whut?

Author:  Destoned [ 09 Dec 2010, 16:20 ]
Post subject:  Re: Wannabe-Official SMP Texture Pack

Not american. And yea no texture. Everything looks FLAT. I know its flat. But i like it when it actually looks more 'realistic'.

The point is, anyone that likes this type of texture pack, doesnt know how to make one or is just to damn lazy can make suggestions on things to change. Like you said tools were weird, il take a look at both of them (both of them being the tools here, and the default tools). Maybe change them back to default, or find other matching tool textures

Eh, you gotta give it to him for posting his texture pack on the forums to face the heat from you guys. I know I wouldn't do that with my texture pack.

So THAT'S why you gave me $100 for a red flower! I was wondering :)

Looks cool, but I'm still working on my custom pack. Not interested in painterly right now... Photoshop FTW.

There were instructions how to use texture packs including the ambient occlusion mod in the thread I linked to. Learn to read. ;-)

I prefer painterly. Frendens changes my entire experience to be honest :P I cant play minecraft and get that "feeling" with frendens. Painterly I use because I like the idea of the "subtle" change from the default. I do, however, HATE the wood, and also dislike the tools. I tried John Smith's and REALLY liked it, however, he failed miserably with the nether. I dont know if i downloaded it incorrectly, if he hasn't done it yet, or what, but it SUCKS. John smiths would be my favorite if it wasnt for the nether blocks, meh, I guess it would be a tie between Painterly and John smiths. Subtle changes are good, frendens is too much for my eyes to handle.

Meh. Texture packs. I plan to make my own soon, for comedic values.

We should design a texture pack that makes everything we build look good using it, and horrible using default, just to tick off n00bz.

Frenden's pack kicks ass, even though you all complain about "cartoony"-ness, I think that Minecraft is kind of a cartoony game.

Post subject:  Re: Painterly mix SMP Texture Pack - Taking Suggestions

I don't really mind cartoony. I've just never found any that look exactly like I want them to.

Post subject:  Re: Painterly mix SMP Texture Pack - Taking Suggestions

If any of you people downloading it have any suggestions, or really hate certain blocks / items, il look into making it better.
So far my only complaint was wood and 'everything sucks'

Post subject:  Re: Painterly mix SMP Texture Pack - Taking Suggestions

I dont like the wood, its too dark/"wet" looking, i guess, or something...i dont really know, its just ugly. ALSO, If you really want suggestions, the chest screen (i dunno if you can change that easily or not) is pretty annoying in my opinion. Its wooden instead of the default "stone" or whatever. In my opinion its annoying to try to loo for stuff in chests when all i see is a dark, ugly wood color. And one more thing. the TNT SUCKS. Those are my suggestions for change at the moment

On a more random side note...
Heres what happens when you switch the alpha textures with the freebuild textures:

ok i never even saw the tnt before.. So, yea im definatly changing that...
And for the wood, what would you prefer? post a image.
Tbh i like the dark wood, but thats just me. I like dark.

Edit: ah yes, i can change that from wood back to the default stone.
Edit2: people i have asked prefer the wood, but il upload a version with stone in place of it..
Maybe il keep 2 versions going. Cause not everyone likes the same things

I always think dark is better. It's just more natural feeling.
