Here is a mini map (Zans Mod) with an extremely simple installation for those of you that dont have one simply because your too lazy to put time and effort into it
you can get information on it, and download it here

To install, make sure java is closed. Ctrl-alt-del and go to processes and end the process if it is still running.

P.S. Download The Installer. Not the zip type

double click the .EXE and once its loaded
Click 2 and Enter to backup your Minecraft.jar
Click 1 and Enter to patch Minecraft.jar (installing the mini map)

I recommend backing up any worlds that are important to you, JUST IN CASE something goes wrong. Although i have not yet had any issues with this mod.

To backup a World Save. Search (and by search i mean click start and search, it will already be on your computer,
as long as its windows) for a program called 'Run' Then type in %appdata% and click enter.
go into .minecraft/saves and there will be one file for each world you have on minecraft. Just copy them into
Your Documents or something. In the case that u do hafto remove Minecraft, just delete the .minecraft folder,
re run minecraft, and place those files into the same directory you got them from .minecraft/saves

Is there a way to see the entire map using the mod? Or will it only render chunks in your radius?

Dest, I have it downloaded, and everything is backed up, I just can't seem to get it actually IN GAME. I didnt actually stop java, but i cant find anything in processes called Java. (obviously i have it installed and working or i wouldnt be able to play minecraft the way i do) Any ideas?

You can also save coords. as waypoints and have the minimap tell you where the waypoint is.

Do note that it will let you type in a longer string to chat than you can send, and sending this overly-long string will kick you, and may crash you as well.
