Macs are alright for working on media related stuff, final cut pro, and istopmotion are pretty neat, but it must be real shitty having a Mac as a PERSONAL COMPUTER, instead of a PERSONAL COMPUTER

I think macs make better personal computers. The productivity suite Apple puts out is actually pretty cool.

Macs are too minimalistic, if something isn't going your way you just have to go with it, where on a Windows you can click and right click a load of stuff until it works. Using a mac sometimes makes me feel like I'm doing my shoelaces with gloves on, chewing a mouth full of toffee, and watching the grand prix.

Windows is for people who like to actually work/do things
Mac's are for "artists" and people who care about how their case looks (better known as "faggots" before South Park came and fucked that up)
Linux is for people who care more about stability then a modern user interface.

Actually Linux has quite modern user interfaces - in many cases far ahead of Windows. I'm dual-booting with Linux.
That is not the issue - the issue with it is that any kind of GUI is slapped onto just the very top layer of the OS and if ANYTHING breaks no mortal without 20 years of *nix experience will know what to do, since Linux is a messy collection of programs written by people from all over the world underneath the bonnet and there are close to no standards that are followed by everyone - fixing problems requires wading through thousands of lines of config files and even then you must know what you are looking for and where.
The ultimate solution is always asking some "guru" and that is more or less how OS knowledge is passed on in the *nix world - the next time the same problem occurs you'll now the exact procedure and will be able to educate others too - it's just that in many cases there's no intuitive or logical way of finding out things yourself.

Linux is perfect for niche applications, for experts OR for people who are immensely clueless and hence would never go beyond clicking on stuff here and there anyway - prime example - my grandmother of 77 has been surfing the Internet like no other for two years now and I installed Linux on her machine - she wouldn't know the difference between it and Windows anyway. However, for advanced users that need INTUITIVE control over their OS Linux is simply unacceptable - it would be even more unacceptable i.e. in offices where every tiny problem would require fetching the resident "Linux guru" to fix it - administrative costs in time and money would skyrocket.

I agree with Macs though. They have introduced the notion that it's "hip" to be ignorant - in fact their whole marketing campaign is centered around it. "PCs are sooo complicated, I'm too dumb to comprehend them, but hey I'M COOL BECAUSE OF THAT!"
It's not that Macs are terrible in general but they are MARKETED in a way that plainly offends me and this marketing has spawned a sub-culture that is nothing short of obnoxious. One of snobby retards thinking they are better than others because their computer has a sleek design and less cables sticking out of it.

Indeed Lim, Linux is a GREAT OS when you actually know what you are doing. However for the average user that wants to do more then just used the preinstalled software that comes with a distribution, say Ubuntu, well... I hope you like using Google.

That sums up my opinion of Macs VERY VERY well. Thank you Lim. Of course, you also can't leave out Apple not wanting to let you do what you wan't with the hardware, and to a certain extent, the software too.

Linux. FreeBSD. Solaris. Chromium. A few others. You have options. Even ReactOS, a free, open source, reverse-engineered Windows XP clone.

Speaking of Chromium, once it's in a more stable, working state, you should install it on your grandmother's machine Lim. What better OS for a person who only surfs the web than one that is pretty much soley a web browser?

ReactOS does not advertise itself as "reverse engineered", rather it is built off of the same principles and infrastructure as Windows.

You can run a Windows EXE on it. Definately close enough.
