Hi all.

Here a little details on upcomming changes in SpA.

Some of these changes require money. As unfortunatly i cannot pay all of it myself (I already pay monthly datacenter cost) i would really like to ask people, who like us at the moment, and have fait in us that we're becomming somthing very cool, to donate a little bit of money.

The ways of donating are explained in the "Donate" section, or you can always personally contact me. And remember, even 10 euro's is already a large donation to us, and very welcome!

So now on to the plans.

CPU Upgrade
As some of you might have noticed, server 4 is having a hard time on pings when its completely maxed out. Due to the player number increase its now full on a daily basis. When we orderd this server, we origionally orderd a AMD X2 4800+ 2x 1MB cache, but unfortunatly a AMD X2 4200+ 2x 215KB cache was deliverd. We decided we didnt want any more delay, and after recieving a discount on it, to use this CPU. Unfortunatly this has proven to be the wrong choice, as it cannot handle the load nicely. Thats why we now want to sell the 4200+ CPU, and replace it with the 4800+ we wanted at first (we want to sell for 150 euro's, and need 300 for the new CPU).

New server
Origionally planned, we wanted another AMD X2 4800+ or 5000+ for this machine. But as some techies here might know, Intel released a line of CPU's totally out performing the AMD's in power and price. We now aim to get the Intel Core2Duo E6600, or E6800 which are roughly 20-40% faster then AMD's 5000+, and they are a cheaper then AMD's.
Estimated cost here are 500E, for the CPU and motherboard (Th3-mute already supplied us with memory, hdd's etc like he did before on the 4200+ machine, MrBlonde).

New wc3FT server
As the popularity of server 4 shows, its time to open up another wc3FT server, connected to the same XP database. I want to configure this server slightly differant then the current one. It will have an alternative map cycle, with only some maps playing on them both. It will most likely be a 20 slots server, and replacing either server 1, 2 or 3.

The bigger picture
The bigger picture is as following:
MrBlonde (AMD 4200+)
-Recieve upgrade to 4800+
-Contain 2 32max wc3FT servers
-If some room is left maybe some other CS based server

MrPink (Core2Duo E6600/E6800)
-Contain CSS servers (Only when/if SourceMod is released, which has been announced for upcomming month)
-Contain other servers of choice (BF2, ET:QW etc)

MrWhite (P4 2.4GHz)
-run windows 2003 to be able to host windows apps (like freelancer)
-virtualise a linux server to run all stuff below
-Be a fulltime database machine
-Hosting MySQL (Websites, XP databases etc)
-BAck-up machine (Create daily backups from SpA systems)
-Webserver (Hosting SpA related websites)
-IRC server (cross server chat)
-SBNC server (Members only BNC access)
-Mail server (Mail demo function, members mail)
-Shoutcast (SpA's radio)
-Ventrillo

All servers will get connected on a so called 'management LAN', each server will have 2 LAN ports, one directly connected trough 100mbits/sec to the ISPs network, and 1 connected into a private switch. This way internal communication can be faster, lessen the load on the 'public' connection, creating extra channel to support servers on in case of conectivity loss.


Well, this pretty much outlines the idea's upcomming for SpA in the comming weeks/months. Once more, this proccess can be greatly speed up if people would send some extra donations, rewards will be given in the future for your support!
