Post subject:  Something to do during Minecraft withdrawal

Hello, my name is Keith and I'm an addict.

I'm here because I was recently found facedown in the bottom of a mineshaft with redstone dust all over my face.

Since Minecraft is currently out of order, I cannot feed my addiction, so I figured I'd introduce myself.

I've met some of you on the Minecraft SMP server, but here's a little about myself.

I am currently a graduate student at UNCC, working toward my masters of arts in teaching (biology). I have a Bachelor of Music from UNC Chapel Hill, and spent a year on the road as the tour manager/drum tech/monitor engineer for Deepfield, an independent band out of Charleston, SC. When I'm not minecrafting or schooling, I am riding my motorcycle. I ride a 2006 triumph thruxton.

That's probably more tan you care to know. See you on the SMP server,
keithgw

Keith. I read your introduction with my eyes, and processed the information with my brain, and AFTER said processing, I went back and consulted my brain as to whether the information contained within your original post was good or not.

Keith, now is the moment of truth.

*Opens envelope and pulls out the card within, just enough to see the answer. Then looks around the room to build tension*

It's good! :D

*Pause for applause*

Keith, congratulations on your satisfactory introduction thread. It's been a long time coming, and a lot of us had given up home. A few of us even took our own lives.

*Pause for laughter*

Welcome to Special Attack. :18

*Weep uncontrollably*

Well then, here's some information for the hive mind (from the source of all knowledge, Wikipedia):

C8H11NO2, also known as dopamine is a neurohormone released by the hypothalamus. Dopamine is closely associated with reward seeking behaviors such as approach, consumption, and addiction. Addiction can in theory be derived from any rewarding behavior. Psychological dependence does not have to be limited only to substances; even activities or behavior patterns can be addictive if they become uncontrollable.

So, you know that feeling when you've been lethargically digging for 15 minutes, placing torch after torch, then you see that gorgeous cyan ore? That feeling of euphoria, compelling you to type "woot! diamonds!" for all to see is a consequence of stimulation of your hypothalamus, ensnaring you deeper and deeper into the mine.

Think I'd rather just take another toke of my crack pipe.

But cheers for the biology lesson, anyway.
