Why do we have 2 Happy Australia Day threads, and why are people posting in both? -.-

Btw, this is the 2nd one, so I blame the OP.

There more than likely is, but I just don't really see the point in national pride at all. I'm of the belief that pride is something you should feel when you've achieved something.

You don't achieve being Australian, just like you don't achieve being English or French and so on, you just are because that's where you were born, which was more luck than anything else.

It looks something like our Thanksgiving day. I suppose us Americans have a lot of national pride days; Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Independence Day. They do serve a purpose, and they offer an opportunity to learn about one's nation. Is there really anything wrong with that? While nationalism can lead to conflict, it can also be a positive force internally.

Anyway, eating lamb? Whats all this about?

Edit: It looks VERY similar to our Columbus day, actually. The Aboriginal Peoples celebrate survival/invasion day? I don't know if anyone over here calls it that, but there is a growing "Columbus was an asshole" movement.

Wow, the amazing thing is that our sub-forum has more posts in our Australia Day thread than the SpA one. This speaks negatively for our possession of these things I like to call lives. I still have no clue what they do, but people occasionally tell me to get one.
