http://www.ageofempiresonline.com/ I was HOPING that Microsoft would just let this franchise be after Ensemble Studios closed, but noooooo. They're going to leech it of every dollar it has left. Age of Empires Online? It looks like they're making it into a bloody MMO. Plus it took a page from Civ IV and is all cartoonish. Apparently, there will be free content, with subscription civilizations, equipment, and architecture that will be "epic and rare." I almost started crying.

Looks like an interesting idea. While it probably end up being shit, part of me hopes they'll be able to pull it off. And what's wrong with cartoony graphics anyway? |

Oh, nothing is wrong with cartoon graphics I suppose. Microsoft has just been pushing the series further and further away from what I liked about I and AoK.

I still find the distinct lack of alien species most disturbing :( I fear I will never be able to play any RTS without any Zerg :< Then again, I'm not that into RTS any more either :) |

Ah, the good old days of playing Age of Empires II on a LAN with my mate. I'd spend all day eating cheese and onion Golden Wonder, planting crops, and turning my little stick buildings into stone structures. We'd both agree that our burgeoning civilizations were pretty decent. Then resources would dwindle and things would turn nasty... At that point I'd send in a shit load of War Elephants (I always went the Persians cause they were awesome) and we would fight to the bitter end. Then we'd start a new game and do it all again. |

Fucking war elephants, I remember when me and my mates, use to go to this internet cafe to play it locally, and the shop owners use say things like "give us an extra 2 quid for this hour, and if you guys can beat two of us, you get get 10 hours free" basically pushing 13-15yr olds into gambling, the elephants would get us every time

Not necessarily going to ruin it, but it's not going to be the same, and that's going to completely ruin it for me. I miss the classic old ensemble studios games, this new one is made what, 6 years later? And it's got graphics like a cartoon, along with just plain crapping on the old games and their plain awesomeness. And it's EGPYT. EGYPT! My god, ruined. It's a major do-not-want for me. |

It looks kind of... cartoonish, though Egypt VS the Romans is pretty awesome IMO. Though paying for the 'advanced civilizations' or whatever doesn't sound very good... |
