Right, so my specification at the moment is... AMD Athlon 3000+ XP 32bit running at 2.17ghz 1gb Corsair PC3200 DDR Ram ATI Saphire Radeon X1950 PRO 512mb Now... i'm looking to upgrade the processor, and obviously to do so i'm going to need a new motherboard, etc. So... my mate is selling me his PC for £50. It's a AMD Athlon 3300+ running at 2.3ghz, but it's a 64bit instead of 32bit. One problem is, it's a PCI-E motherboard, and my new card is AGP. I can't send the card back now, but I am not worried as the card itself is still pissing on quite a few PCI-E GPU's in benchmark tests. What I was thinking is, to get a new motherboard to fit his CPU and have it AGP, so I can install my GPU on it. Will that improve performance? Also, my mate might be able to get me a Intel Dualcore 2.13ghz. This one - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu ... =CP-127-IN. Now, I am thinking of getting a new motherboard, to fit that CPU, and have the board AGP again. Or, to get a AGP and PCI-E motherboard so have an ugprade path. This is the motherboard i've found. Bare in mind, there's only a few AGP and PCI-E motherboards around. http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Product ... tID=431455. That motherboard will probably not allow me to OC the CPU. My mate was saying that the CPU is easy clockable to 2.8ghz, but the motherboard we looked at, probably won't allow it. So, if I had :- Intel Dualcore 2.13ghz 1gb DDR/DDR2 Ram Saphire Radeon X1950 PRO 512mb How much would it increase the performance? Would I notice a fast rise in FPS in games such as HL2, CS: Source, etc etc? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou. |

I've been told that, because my card is AGP, upgrading CPU won't improve performance. Is this true? |

Why? |

cause i dont think they make any propper mobo's with AGP supporting those CPU's. |

Well, i've taken peoples advice onboard. I've e-mailed OverClockers UK and i've stated what we ordered, and that it was AGP, and when I took it out and when to install, I realise we had a PCI-E slot instead. ![]() So... In the next month... Core2Duo E6600 1-2gb DDR2 Ram ATI Saphire Radeon X1950 512mb PRO PCI-E Is that a nice spec? ![]() |
