Ooh! I bought this last year when you guys were all playing it but the day it arrived you all stopped! lol

Good thing you mention this. I just checked my quicklaunch finding no BF2 icon there. I reinstalled my PC and forgot to install BF2. I'm at it as well :mrgreen:

And MAN does it take some time. I've even got the re-release that has everything on one disk but it just goes so slowly! :roll:

Oh god... I can't face this right now.

The incompetence in the design of this game amazes me every time I try and set it up. Something as simple as binding the keys I want should not involve a 2 hour screaming match in which I have to unbind every single key, edit config files and rebind over 100 keys. So...bloody...annoying,

Its installed and working but if I have to do the keys now I may top myself. Will try tomorrow... :shock:

Oh, I just found my bf2 disc yesterday. Will install tonight. (Also: Bought a new puuuuuuuuuter and will most probably be able to play without the fucking thing shutting itself down because of temperature issues...)

Ok then. An hour of installing and patching last night followed by 20 minutes of redefining every key in this misbegotten game this morning to realise I can't actually play it. Whenever I launch the game and start a match, I get to the class selection screen and my cursor wont move. The game is going on fine behind but I cannot join. If I alt-tab out to see what is going on the game just folds without a word.

Also, I won't be able to play until the weekend, I have a insane ammount of work to do. (several hours of footage to compress down into 10min...)

This is now part of the 1.50 patch.

You will need to install BF2, then apply patch 1.41 and then patch 1.50.

I've attached NZB's for the patches as that downloads faster then official sources.

No its a bug. When you fire up the game there is an issue with binding things like the SHIFT keys. If you remove everything that is bound to SHIFT then try and bind something else to SHIFT it says you can't. The only way around this is to clear a good portion of the bindings in the .ini files. Doing this however can cause ALL bindings, including mouse axis, to go haywire and youa re left with no control int eh game.

TL:DR - DICE are fucking idiots and I lack the patience to deal with this shit... :|

For the people who will play;

In BF2 as you recall prolly it's very hard to all get on the same team directly. The tactic we developped for this over the years is for people to wait till 1 person joined, and that person will call out when others can join. This way you can get everyone on the same team the first time they connect.

Also, Howard, you've just reminded me why I always missed playing the game with Saint and Bucky before; it took me sooooooooo long to change all my keys, by the time I finished, they'd all gone to bed :-14

Ah wonderful game installed, patches installed, boot crash to desktop. Search google for related problems do everything listed, after 3 hours of booting, searching, editing and crashing to desktop give up.

remove the profiles folder from your documents directory.

If not, hang on, I'm installing now and i'll need to find the launch options for my shortcut anyway and i'll paste em.

Ok, here are my bf2 stortcut options;

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +playerName SaintK +playerPassword xxxxx +restart +szx 1680 +szy 1050

+menu and +fullscreen 1 are defaults.
This auto logs you in:
+playername = bf2 account name
+playerpassword = bf2 account password

This skips the intro movies:
+restart

This sets your games resolution:
+szx 1680
+szx 1050

Set this to your desktop resolution if your game crashes to desktop on boot.

It's also advised to do a manual punkbuster update the first time.

If you bought it on steam it should be provided fully patched through steam if I'm not mistaken?

I bought it on steam just now, so that I won't have to patch it. Been trying to patch it all morning.
