Bioshock 2 is the biggest let down ever in my opinion.

How they thought it was a good idea to follow up that seminal game with an all out shooter I'll never know. Clearly the team that developed it have no fucking imagination whatsoever.

I would have made it a prequel, set during the fall of Rapture.

Yeah, that would be epic. Even with some good build-up when you would see the city function "properly". Perhaps even make it more of an RPG or something.

It's clear that Bioshock 2 was rushed to make as much money as possible - typical "Hollywood" strat - it doesn't matter if we slay the franchise as long as we make some quick cash here and now. It's not a bad game by any means but you know, the first one was brilliant and this one is just good. Kinda like what I was saying about the Zelda series. :-P

thats the industry for you howard, i by no means think its pretty, and like most of you am wondering where the fuck is episode 3... but, i dont really care, ive got a number #1 selling game on my cv, love it or hate it, its going to be beneficial for my future at least, perhaps not the advancement of gaming but im happy with the work ive contributed, sorry if that offends you.
In a "you are a nice bloke and I am pleased that this will be beneficial to your career" way, I am of course happy that this game has done well and your observations about the selling power of a given IP are well made. :4

In every other way I am horrified that this "game" sold any copies at all, but that's just me. :(

Mostly I am just annoyed that Rebellion was so daffy as to release a game that cannot be played in DX10 mode on Vista by so many people. Very poor show.

Oh, a quick FYI: the pirated version plays perfectly and has received the same patching as the Steam version. Sorry and all...

thats fair enough man, i dont ask anyone to have to like any game.

lol that coding fuck lied to me then hehe !!!

Agreed, it wont be long till developers stop bothering to make PC games at all, there is practically no money in it anymore due to high development costs, pirates and moaning bastards lol ^^

i havent played Bioshock 2 thou, so i dont have an opinion on it, looks cool though and i love the idea of playing like a big daddy, but i agree with moist, that concept for a story arc sounds much more interesting.

Yeah, I think being a citizen of Rapture in the city when people were starting to lose their mind and becoming Splicers would have made for quite an intense and unique experience.

It's as you say though Lim, they simply wanted to churn out a sequel to make some moola. It's a shame really, given the promise that the franchise had.

Ah well. What can you do?

EDIT: That actually strikes me as a good premise for a video game... Hey Balls, set me up a meeting with the men upstairs at Rebellion.

I think its a much better idea for a game than just a follow on to the last one; you would get to witness the brutal cosmetic surgery starting to become common place, all the conspiracy, the bad use of adam etc.

I saw my mate playing it the other day, sadly on xbox, but he had to go and put the little sis down near these normal looking guys, funnily enough called "angels" and with the red wrench next to them, seemed a tad weak and a bit of a crap link.

Moist, if we ever branch off and start a new games company ill give you a call for the position of chief story writer and script editor :)

Imo Bioshock 2 is better in alot of ways. It has better weapons, some interesting new enemys and its also alot less annoying since you can just blow up cameras to stop the alarm or hack it from a distance.

After completing the singleplayer campaign of both the marine and the alien on hard ( don't know why i did this probably because i wanted the game to last longer :) ) i got to say the game is ok from the story side ( probably because i'm such a huge fan of the franchise :P ) BUT the are many performance issues :( like i can play the game only in directx9 without constant shutters and that's a shame because it looks really nice in directx10. Seems ATi released a fix for the shutters and Nvidia only response was those garbage 196.75 drivers released a couple of days ago who fuck up your speed fan and give you choppy playback in videos ( xvid only but still). This makes me regret i dind't buy a ATI card when i had the chance a month ago :(.
Seriously without the performance issues this game could have easily scored a 8 instead of 6.5/7. Didn't try the multiplayer yet do but from what i saw it isn't doing to good.

yeah i heard from someone at work that last weekend on xbox live (Saturday late morning) their were 9 avp games, with the highest amount of players on one being 4.

I played through the SP on my pc at home with dx9/gtx295 with no issues but i have heard from many people about issues with dx10. I'm scared to write anything because howard will chew my face off, bend me over and take me to heaven and back if i say anything about operating systems, avp, games, pcs, technology, the world, the universe, matter, etc etc... :ugly: :5: jokin ^^ so im not gonna say anything,.. compatibility testing is the hardest part of pc development and is often why alot of companies are now straying away from pc game development.

It was pretty short and a little repetitive in places - did have some cool moments in it, and i dont know why but playing as the predator in any game makes me so happy, its probably because im a massive fan of the character and have been since i saw the film back in the 92-93 when i was a nipper.

That's funny as fuck lol, my first game to be on ZP!!! its an honour. :D

Didn't get as much of a tongue lashing as some of his previous ones this year (again backing up my theory about the OZ press - as the game WAS released in Australia. - surprised he didn't mention the whole classification thing.)
[SpA]Lim-Dul wrote:

You had a case? This seems more like Yahtzee's case.
If you did it was pretty ill informed in certain respects.

yeah the alien campaign is pretty short, i managed to get through it whilst my housemate watched a whole football match.

Indulge me?
As far as I remember I was mainly pointing out how more or less the whole world thinks this game is a piece of mediocrity using review aggregate sites, which also seems to be Yahtzee's consensus if you need it to be spelled out by "the only critic you respect"?

i wont indulge you Lim, a) because i dont care enough to explain something so simple to you, and in addition i fear it would be a clear waste of my time talking to someone who clearly didnt comprehend a simple animated review at all, and has limited knowledge on the subject in general.

ROFL. OK, so we are doing ad hominem arguments of the "you have a different opinion so you are clearly clueless" kind now - I can do these too. And remember, this coming from a guy who works in the video games industry and never heard of Gamespot. ;-)

Keep living in your world where you are so smug about having worked on a pretty crappy game that happened to sell well that you can't see it for what it is - which incidentally pisses me off too, not because of jealousy but because I think of all the other GOOD games that didn't do well because they tried doing something new instead of phoning-in a quick franchise cash sweep.

I'm not smug you pretentious idiot; i know the game has flaws as i've actually played it. I'm proud of the work that i've done on it because i worked my arse off. It's a lot easier just being a critic.

I don't give a shit that i never bothered visiting some site full of other pretentious idiots; i have my own mind, i can make my own reviews.
