I'd normally post topics such as this in the 'Entertainment' forum, but I feel it is best suited here as I think it's more of a general topic. Please comment if you feel I shouldn't post these here.

As the title says, it's about my photos from a rave I attended last Saturday. Now, this wasn't just any old rave that I would normally attend. This rave had DJs from all over the world; each one playing full on Dutch Hardcore, Hardcore Techno, Terrorcore, Speedcore . . . the hard, heavy and fast stuff. I know there's a few here really into that style.

What was really also very nice about this rave is that it didn't feel like any other club that raves are so often held in these days. Like the event name suggest, it was 'The Warehouse Experiment' and it really was just like that. The venue must often be used for skating gigs because there were ramps all over the place. In fact, to get to the main rooms decks and stage you had to go up some stairs and there was a platform with a huge drop to a ramp. When you're completely fucked, it's quite a daunting experience walking across it.

You'll notice the last few photos are a bit darker than the rest. This is because I was in one of the heavier rooms (the main room was UK Hardcore) and I felt that bright, multicoloured photos weren't going to fit the atmosphere, so I gave them a bit of a grimy look.

Nice photography. What sort of lighting did you use? It looks like you have either used spots or the inbuilt flash.

I use spot metering and a Canon 580EX II with a Sto-Fen diffuser. I used to use the in-built flash before I got an external one, and I must say, it is a pile of shit in clubs. It really is.

A flash is required in the club work. You won't get anywhere without one. There's a few photos that can be taken of crowds with the flashgun turned off, but only when there's lots of light shining away over the crowd. Some nice dramatic, atmospheric shots can be produced. That's what I like about the 7D and 5D Mk II, you can crank up the ISO and have a decent shutter speed without producing a ridiculous amount of noise.

Although I use spot metering in the clubs, I don't think it makes that much of a difference. If I am honest, I rarely meter the light in a club. The lights change to quickly you can't get a good reading. Instead, I set the camera to a few settings, a few on the flash (if need be) and take some test shots from there. A setting will work wonders one moment then the lights then and they are crap.

I didn't get a chance to photography any, mate. Next time, I will ask some to strip and say, "It's for some guy on a gaming forum."

It's a rave, my friend. It's where the not-so-good-looking of the female sex flock to get stupidly high on any drug they can find.
Of course, there are stunners there, too, it;s just I am normally so far gone myself that taking photos of the stunners is not on my mind, but rather getting into their underwear.
