It was great, kept me thinking throughout the whole film.
A bit complicated and confusing at times (at least for me), but very entertaining!
Definitely a must watch.

Too far to England :p
This film does intrigue me though... seems to me like some kind of refined matrix-film, but
hopefully twice as mind-boggling and trice as thick plot :D
Suspect I will have to wait patiently for it to be released on DVD until I can watch it :/

I've seen this one last Saturday and I must say.. It's a brilliant movie. :4

Really like the way they put events happening in one world reflect in the other dreamworld.

Yeah - looking forward to this too. Is it just me who is surprised by the fact that, given his start in the industry, DiCaprio has turned out to be a genuine talent? Most odd but very welcome.

Totally agree. I actually like him as an actor, he is pretty damn good.

Dicaprio and Damon both surprised me in that. Ben Afleck as well. I thought all these 3 lads would be completely retarded hollywood assholes who think they can act and in the mean time supply us with some Steven Seagal quality acting.
All 3 of them have stared in some freaking good movies so far

Off topic: Where's that new stalone movie, with all the hotshots in em? I'm really curious to that movie as well :D

Since watching Shutter Island I had a good feeling about this film, not just because it's Christopher Nolan directing but Leonardo has blossomed into a fine actor. I STILL NEED TO SEE THIS FILM. Are they showing it in Romania?

I wouldn't mind seeing it again if you wanna go on Friday.

And what was his start in the industry?

What's Eating Gilbert Grape, starring alongside Johnny Depp?

Or the Last Boy Scout, alongside Robert De Niro?

What one of these do you consider to be his 'start in the industry'?

Looks utterly damn epic.

I didn't mean it quite so literally to be honest. I mean more that he was billed as just a pretty boy rather than the powerful character actor he has become. He was pure heart-throb, eye-candy material but has gone on to deliver some sharp, well rounded performances.

Come to think of it I am pretty certain I have only ever seen him in Titanic and The Beach. Wait no - he was in that modern take on Romeo and Juliet which I liked a great deal. I always forget about that.
EDIT: DOH! I always forget about the departed too. Good film but I think I prefer the original.
EDIT 2: BTW McMoist you meant "This Boy's Life" in which he starred with DeNiro =) Last Boy Scout is a very different film.

Yeah, i'm not gonna go to the cinema in romania anyway . I don't even go to the cinema in my own country. I just rather watch movies at someone's instead of overpaying 2 liter cola, not being able to pause the movie and ending up with a headache cuz I don't like watching light in such darkness, sound way too loud, etc.
Plus, i can smoke a spliff at home while I'm watching a movie, drink coca cola which costs like a euro for a 2 liter bottle, pause the movie whenever I wanna take a piss, etc.

Yeah, he's fast became one of my favourite actors personally. He clearly made a choice after Titanic that he wasn't going to fall into the trap of doing shitty romantic comedies and the like to please the droves of women who would have been wet as an otters pocket for him after Titanic, and I respect that. He chose his projects wisely, and the truth is that after Titanic, he kinda disappeared for a while. With the exception of the Beach, I never remember seeing him in anything at all.

I can imagine it was a bit of a hard time for him actually, if, like Howard says, he was trying to carve himself out as a serious character actor. His pretty boy Jack Dawson image would have been highly sought after by studio execs who want nothing more than box office draw for the drooling masses, and I imagine it must have been tough for him to sell himself as a serious player as opposed to some Matthew McConaughey who just does whatever shitty script lands on his desk. And the reason I choose to reference him is cause I actually think he could have been a good actor if he wasn't such a knob. But Leonardo Di Caprio clearly didn't want that for himself, and he held out.

Now, I had a conversation about this with Relun on IRC one day, and I was basically saying that Di Caprio was pretty much my favourite actor of this generation. Now, everybody I say this too always says 'Nah. Nah, not him. He's good but, not him' Unfortunately that Titanic stigma is still there, and no guy wants to admit how good he is, even though he's been in a shit load of cracking films now, and in my opinion, hasn't been in a bad one at all. Not by Matthew McConaughey standards anyway.

Martin Scorcese seen it though. He saw that he had the chops to be a serious player and he cast him in Gangs of New York. Now, I, like everybody else here probably, laughed when he came out of the orphanage at the beginning of the film and I was supposed to believe he was a tough guy. Cause that image was still stuck to him, of the lover, not the fighter. But I'll be damned if it hasn't been rubbed off since then. If not by Gangs of New York, then by Blood Diamond. If anybody hasn't seen Blood Diamond, he plays an ex-South African soldier who basically traffics the titular blood diamonds through Western African countries to the rich West. I thought it was absolutely fantastic, and it was really when I started to take notice of what he was doing.

But back to Scorcese. As everybody knows, he's cast him in four of his recent movies. Four of them. And he's pretty much always the lead character. I say pretty much, cause the Departed is really an ensemble piece and it would be doing an injustice to the other actors to give Di Caprio top billing. But he's right up there folks, and that to me really says a lot. That's praise from Caesar. This is the man who crafted Robert De Niro into one of the finest actors of all time. He saw something in Bobby De Niro, and wanted to run with it. Something I think he see's in Di Caprio too. Something I know I see, and have done for a long time.

And his rising popularity is testament to that fact I feel. And I'm glad too. Cause he waited out that period after Titanic, and didn't put a nasty little blotch on his resume, starring alongside Sarah Jessica 'The Foot' Parker in some horrifying little number. He waited until something found him that put him on the road to greatness. And yes, I think he's on the road to greatness.

And we can necro post this thread when he wins his first Oscar.

So aye... I quite like his films. :ugly:

Yeah - What McMoist said. DiCaprio is a top man tbh and I am disappointed whenever people diss him for being in Titanic. Ah well.

On a related note - I was kinda let down by Body Of Lies when I saw it recently but not by DiCaprio. His character was fascinating and filled with detail but the story just let it down for me in the end.

(MILD SPOILER AHEAD!!!)

Yeah I agree with you there. I like films that capture that underlying sense of threat that is always there, when it comes to hot spots, especially in the Middle East, but I did feel that the ending was a little weak. Without giving anything away hopefully, his kidnapping and the possible whereabouts of the woman he was seeing could have been handled better. It's a difficult subject matter though, and I'm sure you've seen videos on the net of people being beheaded. I've only ever watched one and it sure put a dampener on my day, and I don't consider myself to be especially squeamish and would say I have a high threshold for that sort of thing. It stuck with me for a while.

Not that they would go to that extent in a movie, at least I don't think so, but I imagine that's what Ridley Scott was counting on the audience thinking in order to make the scene work. I'd kinda already seen it done in the Kingdom though, with Jason Bateman's character.

Another movie people might not have seen him in, is the Sam Mendes film 'Revolutionary Road'. Oddly enough, he's reunited with Kate Winslet in it, but Titanic 2 this is not.

Yup, I agree with you guys. Di Caprio is definetly the best actor of the 70s generation. And, in all honesty, as far as romantic movies go, Titanic is pretty damn epic as well.
