I was just saying it so we could ban on sight, since there is a griefing map available, griefing should be bannable without warning. Anyways, it was just an idea, if you guys don't want it, nvm.

Yeah, the only downside about 1-grief bans is that if you're not careful, newbies just screwing around get banned forever and ever amen, and will just leave, even if they'd have been good or even excellent later with some refinement. Of course, ultimately, this would be up to people to decide.

Granted, most of the egregious griefings should just result in a 1-shot ban, in my opinion, regardless of prior offenses, just on account of the damage that it does, so I dunno. I've always felt the 3-strike policy is pretty lenient, and I like to be lenient, when I'm not being draconian. It makes me feel kind and gentle.

I'd like a combination of both ideas... say instant bans on sight but keep main how it is...

I have in the past used the ban reason "Malicious Intentional Grief" to those who just log on and start blowing up blocks, especially to those who have the WOM client, indicating they have some idea of what is right and wrong in Minecraft. Leniency can only get you so far. If a gentlemen comes on, flies to one corner of the map and starts ripping at a building, I don't want to give him the chance to come back and do it 2 more times before a ban.

That said, that was before /freeze and stuff (Both on SpA and my old server which I admined) so things might change but don't be afraid to banhammer the obvious ones. And I don't mean every griefer, I mean the OBVIOUS ones.

I insist on my idea of setting /rules, that way newbies are already warned. At least instant kick?

Thinking about it, there's plenty of other badly kept servers that will home griefers, I don't think this is the server for them. It's for people who want to build and finish things, not just random blocks and tunnels.

Giving them a griefing outlet probably isn't the best decision, they've gotta go cold turkey XD

The main problem I believe with a map for griefing is that griefers only like to grief maps that aren't already griefed. They like wreckiing nice big builds and messing up clean floors. Griefing a big messy map would seem even more pointless to them. Though they might learn what their actions lead up to.

On the subject of no warning insta-bans, I always apply those to the guys working in teams to grief, as those guys have NO excuse.

This thread derailed like a freight train!

Anyway, I didn't say a map for grief in the first place, I said for tunneling. As its popular, could be seen as fun, and there are lots who want to do it. However, looking back on it, I'd say its a bad idea as tunnelers are generally new, and have no idea where to go.

Which raises this question: What was the name Ollie said that TRONIKK wants to name his son? Or is Ollie the name TRONIKK wants to name his son?
