I had to send in a photo of my HL1 CD waaaaaay back. Dunno if that's still the case since accounts don't require keys on registration...

Update: Apparently it's still the case!

Oh man! I'm so gonna talk to not you! :-D

He/she/it is offline now. :-(
But I so wanted to talk to "anna's rack"...

P.S. Don't worry, surprisingly enough hijacked account cases are solved quite quickly. I had my account back like the next day.

Vögelchen was hacked too - just messaged me with the .tk URL - in RUSSIAN. :-D

Isn't this like the second time Vögelchen has been hacked? What does he have for a password? "me"? :-P

Update: Dayum, you posted before me. Anyways, since I'm totally confident in my ability to not be hacked on the Internet (despite my confidence having been undermined many times ;-) I visited the site in question and it's the usual bullshit - a fake copy of the Steam Community login site.

No. it asks you to sign into the steam community and that's how it gets into your account

Yeah - but luckily you can't be hacked without entering anything.

BTW - how did you get onto this site? Did someone else from your friends list message you? Just so we can keep track of where the infection is spreading from.

TBH I liked the infamous "gold offer" or something page much more appealing for phishing purposes. Shame on these guys for being lazy hacks. :-P

Someone posted me a link and like an idiot I clicked it. It took me to the steam community and I had to log in... and at that instant I realised what I had done and it took me too long to change my password... so I lost my account and I can't get back into it and I'm not having much response from steam support. I'm still waiting for their welcome email which I had to send to another email address because the one linked to steam I now can't get into

Also got this message from Birdy, but it was quite obvious not Birdy writing russian, so I did not click any link.

And Lim-Dul is right. Send in a scan of any cd-key registered with your steam account. Within a day or two you get your account back.

A Tip for everyone: Verify your Email-Adress (think it's under settings in steam)! Nobody will ever have the chance to change your account-password or mail without your approval, if you verify the mail adress!

This answers my next question. Having read this thread I went and changed my Steam password out of paranoia (plus its been the same since day one - oops) and it asked me to verify the request via my email. I was wondering how people got around that and now I know.

Often people have the same password for their steam account and verified email address, which defeats the purpose of verifying it in the first place.

Aye - duplicated password usage - a sysadmins nightmare. Can't believe people still do this :? :demm:

They usually come within 5 minutes for me, I change my password fairly regularly.
