Minecraft.net, and thus the authentication server, is down. So yeah, you can't log on through normal means. The SpA servers ARE up.

The fact that it had to be made speaks for itself (or LOLNotch ;-). It's similar to:

But also reports when MC.net is very slow, which could cause problems...

Also, calm down. Minecraft SMP is down 145% of the time (yes, 145%), and many of these cases was form minecraft.net, so it is safe to say at least 113% of the time (yes, 113%) minecraft.net is down. It is a game that likes to be down, it isn't the end of the world.
