So, recently I went all out on client mods, since Minecraft SP is a strangely zen-like experience after the massive fail of LOLNotch's SMP - also, I didn't realize HOW awesome some mods are - I used only ones that had some use in SMP too.
Since the mods have to be installed in a specific order and require reading through some documentation, I figured I'd compile a mod-pack that I'm currently using!

Is this pack available without Frenden's texture?

Just took a propper look at the extra mobs pack, looks great. Do they replace any of the default mobs? I mean the average motherfucker don't stand a chance against all them aha

I don't think they replace them, there's just a ton of animals everywhere! Feed a turtle with a flower and it'll be your personnal mobile chest!

Obviously the pack is not available without Frenden's textures. =)

Apart from my fanatical worship of his work there are very practical reasons for that:

minecraft.jar needs to be patched with the HD Texture patch to make water and lava work and I won't be maintaining 10 versions of this. ;-)
Worth noting is, however, that you can still apply any 16px texture pack via the internal (fail) loader by LOLNotch - only the lava and water will be still from Frenden's (LOLNotch's fault!), since it simply replaces the default textures.

Frenden's water looks weird in most texture packs of the Browncraft variety, so if you're really adamant you can open minecraft.jar and swap out terrain.png to with any other terrain.png from a 16px pack - NOT ANY OTHER TEXTURE RESOLUTIONS THOUGH.

And yeah, the animals are in addition to anything that is already in the game to further embarrass LOLNotch in his incompetence. Horses are ride-able and can be bred (I started mating unicorns :3), birdies fly around and eat seeds, neutral mobs attack each other (i.e. predators attack smaller, peaceful mobs) and so on - it's quite amazing really.
LOLNotch should drop his "but I'm from Mensa" attitude and simply adapt the changes others made for him - these guys would be DELIGHTED to have their work included officially - even at no cost - and the "but it's hacked together" argument wouldn't be applicable either since nothing can be "hackier" than Minecraft already is. ;-)

P.S. If you want something better than a turtle with a chest (it's slow =) you can breed horses till you get a packhorse, which ALSO acts as a mobile chest but can be ridden and unlike the turtle doesn't lose interest if not fed flowers constantly. ;-)

I really think it's silly how the mobs never attack neutral mobs. I think Notch, despite nicking some ideas, has come up with a really nice game, but he's really abusing it with stupid little drawbacks, and yeah without mods and stuff, smp would be dull as hell. I think the PvP and PvE is terrible, there's not much skill involved, no weapon sounds, it's just two objects hitting eachother. I know it's a simple game, but surely it could be better.

Also, since the "cake" update, I've been unable to play smp. It works good for about the first 10 minutes, then it turns into a slideshow. I'm baffled because the memory usage is still the same. Guess I'll just stick to blaming lolnotch.

Hopefully some amazing mod will come out that will fix that for me. Single player with fast graphics and far view, I average about 27 fps (ranges in between 15 all the way to 60). Online however, with far view and fast graphics, I get between 7-10 fps for the first 10 minutes, then after that it drops down to 1-3 fps. Changing the draw distance to anything but far or normal while online, makes it even worse. I am playing on a laptop (new pc in works of being built), with a shitty integrated graphics card (GMA 965) with duel 3.2 processors and 4 gigs of memory.

So that's the reason I'm never on smp anymore. I do get on freebuild though at least once a day.

These guests are getting worse. I hopped on yesterday, a guest screamed for help from a griefer. I caught the griefer, got rid of him, then repaired all the grief on his build. In return, the guest told me, "Fumino, this is my build, quit destroying it." Then "Fumino, get out, quit messing with my build!"

No biggie, only one guest.. but 10 minutes later. The EXACT same thing happened to another guest, then after fixing his grief, he told me off just like the other guest. -_-

Just felt like raging, something I rarely do. That just got under my skin a little.

Did it help you with FPS, Fumino? Optimine really boosts them in some cases due to cutting down on chunk re-rendering updates. For me it runs at like ~200 FPS (i.e. way above monitor refresh rate, so who cares) with everything at max... And that's an almost 3 year old computer...

You just extract it to appdata and overwrite stuff. To clean up the mods you go to %APPDATA*\Roaming\.minecraft\bin and delete everything therein (provided you are certain MC.net is not down and you will be able to redownload clean ones).

Well, it seems notch no longer wants mods on his game

Every time I go to play now, it re-downloads all the packages, which takes out the mods.
First time I just thought, "Oh, it's just another update, I'll just reinstall the package," but nope, right after installing it again, right when I fired the game up and logged it, it re-downloaded all the packages again.

Only way I've been able to continue using the mods is by blocking the program from the internet when I log in.

Yep. Anytime I install any mod now, if I allow internet to minecraft when I log into the client, it starts to download all the packages. Did some testing with it and just installed the latest Zan's mod only, and sure enough, it took it right back out when I tried to play.
