Double post but fuck it, this ones got some modern(ish) US punk bands I kinda like.
It maybe pop but damn the lyrics get dark for Alkaline Trio.
Punk criticising punk and referencing the Dead Kennedys, sign me up.
United Nations, the best thing to happen in the punk (maybe powerviolence/screamo) scene for a long while, again critique and referential (there next album is apparently going to be called "Plays Pretty for a Bunch of Fucking Babies" see below)
Nation of Ulysses, the best punk band the US ever gave us, inspired Refused in style and lyrical content and recorded "The Sound of Jazz to Come" from their second album "Plays Pretty for Baby"
I may add to this at some point... as I managed to refrain from posting to much sub-genre stuff

The sad fact of all this is that Bad Religion were founded in the 70's and had their first release in the year I was born...
I'd almost agree Junco, but then I think there's been little of worth from punk in general, globally, since the mid 80's anyway. Post Punk and Post Hardcore took over and actually developed the sound, Emo went in a different direction by listening to Moss Icon's discography. It got hard to distinguish what punk was for a while but the Casualties and Rancid nailed it back to a look and a sound in the 90's, while better bands with real ideas got over looked. Tragically the influence punk had on other genres was its life line in the 90's Math Rock, Grunge, Post Rock, Mathcore and Metalcore and even Slowcore came from the punk movement.
Well that's why I've always loved the 70's for punk on both sides of the atlantic, and some British stuff afterwards, emphasis on some. I get a lot stick for praising bands like The Sex Pistols, and The Clash, and most of the bands around for 1977 to 1979, they say I need to listen to some 'real punk' or some less known stuff, but that's bollocks as far as I'm concerned they were the originals.
Well that's what I mean, I sort of dismiss alot of american bands because of that, but of course there's some great bands that cropped during the 80's, which I really need to give a chance. Oh and Balls you'll hate me for this, but I'm sure I went to a gig where Leftover Crack was playing, and I'm not even sure if I watched them
Oh and where I got my name from, seeing as I mentioned The Clash, didn't think it'd be a nick I'd stick with.
I'm aware it was an old blues song

IMO sex pistols are overrated, and to be perfectly honestly, a boy band of the time, created for the growing cultural movement. I don't dislike them or anything, but the clash takes a royal shit on them anyday!

I'm not convinced by either The Clash or The Sex Pistols myself, not for the reason I don't consider them punk and the people that tell you they weren't among the first punk bands forget that what came before can only really be termed proto-punk. My problem with them is that I find little to enjoy in the bands more so with the pistols as I can recognise the need to grow and experiment in the clash; Sandinista! alone is worthy of respect. I always preferred the Stranglers in the UK punk scene, odd outsiders associated with but musically outstripping everything within the scene.
Most people get more interesting when they leave their initial punk routes behind, Public Image Limted, Rollins Band, Fugazi, Chrissie Hynde to name a few, some bands left the punk routes behind while still in that punk band The Clash, Bad Brains, Beastie Boys, The Wire... to name a few, the moment the experimentation came in it got interesting fast.
The only thing I agree with is, listen to other stuff because nothing should ever be discounted especially with punk which was a catalyst as strong as blues for spawning a musical movement/s and despite its close ties to fashion (thanks Malcolm McLaren) punk was always about an underlying spirit, even in its early days it was about more than music and that spirit is alive and well. That Said here's some old school punk

I've seen them, honestly they aren't that special, you didn't miss much.
forgot to add I knew where the name came from, though I was only sure it was the clash not blues when I saw the photo you put up.
I don't know, The Pistols were a spark in the pan, and they left their mark, I think they had carried on to experiment they'd have killed what they had, I think Nevermind the Bollocks and other tracks they did, were just brilliant almost out of luck. Rotten's such an aggressive frontman, and the band could really play, the riffs may of been crude, but they were just keeping up with Rotten. Forget about Sid, he didn't do any for the Bollocks album, they got Matlock in for the recordings. The '77 bands were just so raw, fantastic and shit, I love it, no thought just passion
I got to see Public Image live, Johnny really put on a good show, awesome stuff, but not a patch on his previous endeavours.

Yeahh they were overrated for the wrong reasons, same happened to Nirvana, but I still think the quality's there.
An Oi! song that's been stuck in my head, you don't have to right wing to listen to abit of Oi

Screw you guys side ways, up, down, from top to bottom, bottom to top, inside out and the other way around, it's time for the real shit!
These guys can just rip out your sphyncter and find an empty milk carton and play you the best music you ever heard!

Yeah they are pretty good, i've seen this video before too, its made by Sitcom Soldiers who do some really good music videos for semi-big bands in the uk, but for a few guys the production values are amazing, sure some of their video concepts are uninspired but the execution is the best i've seen, and nothing but pro. http://www.sitcomsoldiers.com/
Speaking of ripping out your sphincters!
Saw these guys live, it was immense how talented they were and how tight they were. It was at the Camden underworld, and the energy was intense!
Peeping Tom have to be one of my favourite bands to see live!

Not linking this band because they're good (haven't really listened to enough of them to decide that), but mainly because my friends are supporting this band tonight and their guitarist is Neil Buchanan from the show Art Attack... I find this odd but I can't really place my finger on it.

So much blues, the moody blues too. The Locust (oh god the locust), Talking Heads, Peeping Tom but in the end I LOVE the blues, I love Robert Johnson and I love this thread.
top 10 album fav album "something to write home about"

I'd much rather see Danzig with the Misfits but ah well
Out of all of them though I'm looking forward to System of a Down the most, they're one of the first bands I ever bothered to listen to properly.

These guys did the music for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game. They actually use a hacked NES as a synthesizer. I love music with no words in it, it's easier for me to listen to over an over! Dunno if you all already know about them or not

I like the idea of this sort of music..just don't like the band doing it
Anyway:
