First off;
Funky Tonight - John Butler Trio (Australia). Should be better known for those into roots, bluegrass, folk with a slightly more funk edge... this is what Mumford and Sons might be if they cheer the fuck up.


Heart of a Man - One Punch (Korea). Melancholic but beautiful Korean Folk, managed by a friend of mine.


Chnam Oun - Ros Sereysothea (Cambodia). A pioneer of Garage rock sung with a traditional Cambodia voice, I only wish this scene had developed, sadly Sereysothea appears to have been executed (along with many of her contemporaries) by the Khmer Rouge in the killing fields at only 29 years of age in 1977.


How To Kill A Daredevil - Last Year's Tragedy (Kenya). A post Hardcore/Heavy Metal band from Africa's heartland, live recordings only so far but there's an album soon and the joy of Africans playing this I cannot understate.


AnarchoSpace - Diagnoise (Spain). Post Rock with Electronica, simple to the point sounds a bit like Maybeshewill or 65DoS without ever actually trying to be like either and often sounding more beautiful than both.


Tigersuit - Raein (Italy). A screamo band that redefined what the genre could do and were the best thing in it along with La Quiete, Envy and Saetia, raw and emotional as all hell I went to Milan just to see these guys play.


Fell Off The Floor Man - dEUS (Belgium). This band should be in everyone's catalogue there is no genre these guys won't play in and experiment with. (This song is the last song I ever heard stoned)


Heurt - Amesoeurs (France). Breathtaking, ostensibly a Black Metal band but often a layered like Shoegaze and played like post-rock this is one of the better albums of recent years. Saddly they broke up.


Not an Addict - K's Choice (Belgium). Heard this on my first, and (sadly) last trip to Belgium. A friend of mine had it playing when I arrived I left with it too... Criminally overlooked as one of the finest alt rock bands of their day especially when female fronted bands were all the vogue.


My Weary Eyes - Dolorian (Finish). Doom Metal and apart from the voice which can take a bit of getting used to, really good atmospheric doom.


Speed my Way - Everything is Made in China (Russian). Post Rock at its most expressive and beautiful.

Compulsion - Mall Monarchy, JackKnife Lee from this band went on to be producer extraordinaire but this band will always be what I most love him for.


Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine - Sheriff Fatman, A drum machine and a couple of scruffy motherfuckers but fuck me if Jim Bob didn't write some of the best and funniest lyrics about at the time.


Pop Will Eat Itself - Lived in Splendour: Died in Chaos, In a continuing theme Clint Mansell is the vocalist here he went on to be Clint "I scored Requiem for a Dream" Mansell, I still love PWEI.


Chemical Brothers - Leave Home, I still think Exit Planet Dust is the Chemical Brothers at their finest and the opener from the album still makes me smile wide as it builds.


The Wildhearts - My Baby is a Headfuck, Big dumb and fucking lots of Fun. Live they were insane on record less so but there are still moments of Magic.


Portishead - Roads, The finest song from one of the best albums ever written, sunday's were not sunday's unless this song is played at least 12 times.


The Breeders - ConnonBall, Kim Deal from the Pixies, her folk band fronting sister, Tanya Donelly of Throwing Muses and the drummer from Slint. Magic was made.


Levellers - 15 Years, Englands punk folk act that didn't so much tour as get moved on from town to town... I sort of miss the levellers coming through town but they just lost their relevance by the end of the 90's


Terrorvision - Oblivion, Did I say big dumb fun before? Meat its very definition.


Therapy? - Teethgrinder, In the 90's it seemed the US had a monopoly on strage noise but Therapy? gave them a run for their money no album sounded like their last and they still but out some decent material.


Leftfield - Release the Pressure, A song to get high to especially if you have Portishead's Dummy knocking about for the comedown.


Autechre - Slip, Every now and then I remember to listen to Autechre's early stuff and remeber just how fucking beautiful it all was... 94 was a very good year for music.


Babes in Toyland - Bruise Violet, This is what Hole only dreamed of being, more raw nasty and harsh than most of their male contemporaries and most of the time better. Kat Bjelland's voice still scares the shit out of me.
