So both Bioshock games are 5 Euro a piece on Steam today 8)

Would anyone recommend it to me? I played neither of them, but they look interesting. Which one is better?

Bioshock one is amazing and worth more than 5 euros, so get it!
I played a bit of bioshock 2, then stopped because it is a weak sequel :S

If you can ignore the hyperbole of the frothing fan boys for a moment...

Bioshock 1 is atrocious. One of the most overrated games ever released. Painfully linear, tragically ugly and stunningly unoriginal and repetitive. Imagine Serious Sam with all the fun removed, the graphics brought down to 360 capabilities and with every ounce of originality wrung out of it.

Bioshock 2 had the advantage of not being made by the dribbling peckerheads that number one was. While being hamstrung out of the gate by the awful engine (Unreal 2, guys? REALLY?!) the scope of the design is far superior. The gameplay is far more varied and open (though that is not hard as No1 is one step away from being an on-rails lightgun game), the plot far better realised (and not lifted from elsewhere, unlike the first) and the weapon upgrade system (which is ridiculous and pointless in the first game as most of them are utter shite) is handled well. Add the multiplayer to that (which I've not played but hear decent reports regarding) and you have only one choice really.

As for Bioshite: Infinity - don't even start. Another over-hyped, ugly assed Cliffy B nightmare of pretension and linearity. The sooner than over-evolved chimp is stabbed to death the better.

GFX looked good on my pc 8)

BS1 was pretty tense for me and had some cool setups, the ending didn't really do the game justice, but there was alot of little details in the game that I really enjoyed.

Get your eyes checked. DX9 forced onto the Unreal 2 engine. Garbage throughout.

Setups? What? Where? It was Quake. A long line of corridors with no choices what-so-ever. There was reportedly a plot behind all the nonsense, but all you ever see are ugly, cookie-cutter rooms and what have to be the worst drawn enemies since Wolfenstien 3D.

I mean like, the plane crash bit, the elevator and seeing rapture, watching a big daddy walking the sea bed etc, little things like that :) i appreciate those kind of touches. Lots of cool shadow work etc.

Gzeus, it's €3, but the game

Those scripted pieces of nonsense that never turn up in the game you mean? First thing you see of Rapture is this massive, multi-storey underwater metropolis. Where do you spend the 5-6 hours of the game? Corridors. Corridors, corridors and more corridors. Its all smoke and mirrors and never actually delivers on any of its promises (and that is ignoring the blatant lies told by the dev team during development - fuckers)
Gzeus - If you must buy one, buy Number 2 and use the money you saved from the first one to buy yourself a pint.

I like that kind of stuff, little bits of immersion, like seeing G-man from miles away or appearing on a TV for a second then disappearing. Different strokes i guess :ugly:

Yeah - different strokes - instead of bullshit and lies I prefer actual content - I'm odd like that :ugly:

This time I listened to Howard's beautiful rants and bought Bioshock 2 :ugly:

I haven't played any FPS apart from TF2 in ages, so even if it's a bit linear, I probably won't mind 8)

BioShock is a jewel if you like to pay more attention to scenery/soundtrack/overall feel rather than raw gameplay. As a note though, it does not run on Windows7. I've tried everything to get it to work.

BioShock2 is merely a rushed sequel, nothing to write home about.

BS1 works fine on Win7. Never had any problems.

BS2 being a rushed sequel is pure hyperbole. It was in development nearly as long as the first one which, when you consider they did not have to develop an engine or a number of assets, means it was in development far LONGER than BS1.

I have never, ever heard a good explanation for the logic behind the statement that BS2 is the lesser game. It exceeds the original in EVERY respect. People just like to listen to other peoples opinions and accept them rather than develop their own.

Wow. That man is a tool.

Ok - first up his entire argument that "BS2 <BS1" is based on the idiotic, and oft quoted, premise that Bioshock was the peak of plot writing combined with the best "de-constructed linear gameplay" (ie he, like so many other utterly stupid people think that BS1 was not 110% linear - it was. Deal with it) and therefore any attempt to do anything else with this self contained, fully resolved bottle of perfection will just end in failure.

What a retard.

BS1s plot is hilarious. It makes precisely no sense on any level, from the way Adam works to the economy of Rapture to the actual existence of this underwater metropolis in the first place. It's utter crap. Because Mr Reviewer cannot see that though, and is blindly staggering about with his inch thick, NHS, rose tinted glasses on, he is utterly incapable of seeing that BS2 holds water just as well (or badly rather) as the original, but has far superior gameplay, a lot of which genuinely IS none linear (I note that whiny boys main complaint was that he did not like the fact you had choices as to what you wanted to do and how you wanted to behave - idiot).

TLDR: BS2 took the only semi-interesting parts of the first game (The scenery, the Little Sisters and the Big Daddies and made a game that actually functions while injecting some real choice for the player. God forbid that should happen.

Oh, and for those of you (most of you I'd wager that didn't play enough of it, you missed some genuinely good set pieces later on (particularly when you play as a Little Sister) and a far more logical set of endings. 8)

Perfectly reasonable, except at the start of your posts you call who ever disagrees with you a moron.

Ignoring the condescending manner of every single post you make, I actually meant that I was hoping that Bioshock 3 would be better than 1 & 2, but whatever, keep on doing your thing :5:

I like both linear and non-linear gameplay, I stopped playing BS1 before the end because it bored me, although some parts of the game I enjoyed. I briefly played BS2 as well. I see potential in both games but they just don't hold my attention, so I hope Bioshock 3 will be more enjoyable for me.

This shit again? Really? How many times are people like you gonna try this shit on before you finally realise it does not stick. Do you even know what condescending means? I ask because your comment is erroneous and makes no sense at all. But way to join in with Pandorum derailing the thread. Well fucking done.

but more to the point, i really enjoyed BS1, other than the hack mini games, i thought the tones, colours, mini videos, scary moments, and set pieces were really quite cool. I love games with atmosphere.
