you should hook some good hardware to it, you'll hear the difference. Or you just don't care that much for high sound quality.
Onboard sound is just crap :P
Have you tried a mobo with the ALC889a? I don't say it outperforms a 150 Euro soundcard, but the quality is surprisingly good.
I listen with Sennheiser headphones & it's hooked on my Yamaha receiver btw.

Got a Yamaha RXV557, but I think I'll upgrade to the coming Onkyo SR-606 as I want support for TrueHD/DTS MA. Oh and I need a receiver with HDMI support.

Yep... and the new model (SR606 vs SR605) finally has 4 HDMI inputs - which is great, as the SR605 only had two, which is not enough :p
I have a Canton 5.1 set (sat. speakers) - once I found myself a new house I will probably upgrade it to more powerful speakers

Canton is a bit the top you can get from sat speakers, but i'm very unhappy about the music quality sat speakers produce. For watching movies, cheap speakers will do good, more expensive speakers will do great, but always with listening music you'll hear much difference between those and better speakers.
I've chosen for these german speakers, but there are a lot of good speakers :D
I hope you'll buy big ass speakers :4

Yep - for movies it's a great set, and for music they're okay but not superb. But I use audio set up more for movies than for music, so I'm okay for now ;)

No idea what I will get to upgrade, but one thing is for sure - they will be at least bigger :D

Which type is it? I've been turning my head 90 degrees but can't determine the type. I'm looking for a headset as well :)
