revisit hlstat?

I'm not quite happy with it. I think the old system was better... now we've got people with over 60k points.. simply because they play a lot more. I think the system we have been using for a while now is even worse then the previous ones since it really seems to give advantage to those who play a lot and the scores on HLstat are showing. Seriously 60+k points... in the old system the max I saw was around 15k

I suggest to remove hole stats system... It's affecting too much on ppl's playing style, and causes camping etc...

i agree, this has always been a problem. Statwhores.
But then again, it does make ppl more enthusiastic, make em join more often, make em come back, etc.

I'm with SonnY. I won't need stats, but's nice to see for me how I'm evolving and where I'm standing compared to other players. In addition they give you some helpfull data... at least at my level of play. So I can see for example that I'm best at cp_dustbowl and worst at cp_well... also it doesn't take into account how often I joined these maps.

So I like them and it would be a pity if they would be dropped completely. But for other systems: I don't know them so I cannot say sth. about'em.

yeah, well currently the stats are

1. Are you a decent player? If the anwser is yes move on to 2
2. do you play 40+ hours per 2 weeks? If the anwser is yes, Congratulations you'll be top 20 in no time. If the awnser is no, tough luck

http://psychostats.specialattack.net

Test installation for the Psychostats package. Currently proccessing all stored server logs (I am not sure how many these are, and till when they run back, so it might not be all data availible. If we choose to go for Psychostats, with is likely, we might also do a database reset to start from cratch).

Logs are still proccessing, and it might take couple more hours to complete. After is the database will update every 30 minutes. (Stats are not 100% live as it was/is with HLstatsX)

As i said, i don't know how far back the stats run. It could very well be its just the last couple of months. I recall (i think) removing the logs once when creating a backup from server 1 when i installed the new server 3.... And also sometimes when we got server 4...

I'm missing a lot too
And it can't be for 20 days only.. since in the list that tells you who' you have killed/got killed by tells me I killed people I haven't seen on SpA servers in months~

Can't we just leave the stats as they are?? If you are not interested in stats then why does it bother you? People will just "stat build" on the new physco-stat system if they want too. Me personally, I like stats, always have (thats why im a geeky scientist), but I do not play for them...I just do the roles that the team needs.

Kinda hopeless, but improving (136)
Personally I prefer HLStatsX:

Format and presentation are better on server overview and player rankings
Player ranking actually shows my current name [SpA]Gahrain, not my old more used name
I like the ability to select daily ranking, and to see how I did today, and therefore see if I am improving
I like the fact it is upto date
I find the ability to find info just seems easier on HLStatsX, but that's probably just familiarity
Now that daily awards work they are fun, although pyscho has ability for weekly and monthly award roll-up; that said I hope you can change the weekly awards on pyscho cause 3 of them are just plain dumb
Couldn't find an event history on pyschostats - I'd miss that

With regard to people with 60k+ points (all of one) - so what. You have 15 odd over 20k. And a large proportion in the 7-19k. Are you really bothered you are not number 1?
With regard to people playing a lot and therefore having a lot of points - not sure what you want instead - you want the regulars to play elsewhere or less? That said range of days played in top 20 is from 3d to 20d - so some people who play less can make the top 20?

Purpose of stats to encourage people to stay and not to leave. Therefore I think any stat package should have the following:

Daily award/list to encourage the people who have just come by to see what it is like, and you would like to encourage them to come back.

3 or 4 week rolling player ranking list which therefore reflects not only skill but time put in; more time = fuller servers. The rolling list also gives the opportunity for people who haven't played for newcomers to shine. It also give you a chance to lose your learning curve history - you can always have a month of playing a class you are rubbish at. Yes you'll potentially vanish off the ranking, but you'll always have a chance to shine again if you so care. Don't know how pyschostats works it - but you have a range of people who have played for between 3 hours and 240 hours in the top 30 at present.

Top 10 of players (points based) or similar so the long term player who has had a month off actually comes back to polish their crown.

Anyhow those are my personal views, and as long as I can compare my gaming against my previous and find some silly stat to make me feel less of a noob I'm happy.

Gahrain

ps is it just my imagination or have the servers got real quiet just now. Any ideas why? Summer/another game etc?

I agree with most of what Gahrain wrote.

Psychostats not be live is a big drawback. I checked the "Server" tab and it's not correct. With hlstatsx you can see who plays at every server live, how many play etc.
Moreover I didn't find a daily point ranking like hlstatsx has.
On the other hand it shows more stats for a player...

It's a tough choice but I think I prefer hlstatsx too.

I agree with Noxious and Gahrain. I'm only checking stats when i want to see who is playing on where, and sometimes i might check my daily point ranking (normally Gahrain does that for me ).

Anyway me and Magisk are not anymore shown on the stats, cuz we hid ourselves just to show how pointless those stats are :18
