Personaly I hate the achievements. Just seem to be such a grief. "Get a ubered heavy to punch two guys", common, is that suposed to be fun? I don´t get it.

I bet pyro-achivemnts will be like "kill 25 scouts with your axe" or "kill 5 enemies with your flametaunt" and we´ll have 8 pyros per team running around taunting. As there weren't enough of that allready.

(Just had to whine alitle, the medic patch made me so frustrated)

good thing I was out of town when the medic pack came out~
but some achievements are really cool if you get them, I almost got big pharma in regular play
but I guess I like playing medic

I won't go play pyro just because the achievements came out, I get them when I get them x]

I wouldn't need them, but it's nice if they are there. It's a bit of fun if you play around and the little popups slides into the screen saying that you did something special.

But it would be nice if they won't pop out a single achievement class. 2 or 3 in parallel would be better in my eyes. I wasn't playing TF2 as the medic achievements came out, but I can imagine that it was horrible. An important thing is also that the need to watch the balancing with the new weapons.

One idea in the steam forums was to replace the fireaxe with an extinguisher, which allows to smack enemies and alternativly extinguish flames. I like that idea. :)

that is an freakin' awesome idea xD i would love to see that, although pyro's will be completely useless if the other team has a pyro(atleast if you play well together). or im totally wrong about that and its my inexperience talking.

That would be the best for the class distribution as everybody could stay at playing his favs. But it'd be a big bunch of work, too, and I don't think they'll do it.

I think Amyl likes pyro.
Anyway, I think some of the achievements will actually require some common sense, like circle strafing level 3 sentries and destroying them.

I wonder what on earth the unlockable weapons might be.
The fire-extinguisher seems like a cool weapon, but what will replace the good ol' flamethrower and the shotgun?

The Pyro class is next in line to receive an Achievement and unlockables upgrade in Team Fortress 2, Valve has confirmed.

Advertisement:
The last class to receive the upgrade goods was the Medic, whom can now receive unlockable weapons for collecting specific Achievements based on its healing abilities.

For example, earn all 36 of the Medic's achievements and you can get your hands on The Ubersaw, "which will take damage done in melee attacks and convert it directly to ubercharge." We're expecting equally useful fiery additions for the Pyro.

Valve plans to roll out the unlockable weapons system for the other TF2 classes in the future.

Speaking to PC Gamer, Valve also revealed that the 'Meet the Sniper' video is next in line on its comedy trailer release list.

Last month Valve updated it's highly successful multiplayer game Team Fortress 2 with new achievements and unlockables for the Medic class, and since the new system worked so well Valve confirmed last week to PCGamer UK that The Pyro will be the next class to get updated. Today Valve revealed one of the new unlockables for The Pyro and it called The Axtinguisher.

Although The Axtinguisher does about half of normal damage to standard run-of-the-mill non-burning enemies, once you light someone on fire the Axtinguisher will guarantee a critical hit. Sounds good...very good.

Along with all of the new content The Pyro will receive significant changes regardless of whether you have unlocked any new items.

We've almost completely wrapped up the next big release for Team Fortress 2, which will focus on the Pyro class, along with the Meet the Sniper movie. We've spent time looking at how the recent Medic release went, and have rolled feedback from that release into the new item designs for the Pyro and into the design of the achievements required to unlock those items. One item, shown here in concept form, will be the Axtinguisher. Although it does about half of normal damage to standard run-of-the-mill non-burning enemies, once you light someone on fire the Axtinguisher will guarantee a critical hit.

Along with all of the new content, we're also going to be making some significant changes to the Pyro class for everyone, regardless of whether they have unlocked any new items.

Yay! Pyro ftw! Ok... I'm partial... :4

Axtinguisher sounds nice and I'm curious about how they change the class.

Edit: In the comments of the link is a full size concept art:

why for the love of god do they want to give out more crits. They are lame enough as it is.
I wonder what the significant changes will be..

... medic movement speed
... flamethrower will get even more damage
... only water can put out flames?

The main big change is that they added alitle range. Nothing that would dramaticly change the class.

I wouldn't mind a next update of a class.

I am used to play medic, mostly no one was a medic and playing the medic then was really statisfying as you aided a lot of people.

Then came the medic pack, the first week I've barely played medic.
Now, last week I got the feeling that things are going at ease again, as I noticed people 'who want to be medic to get the achiements', have harvested most of them now, so now I can finnaly play medic again as it should be(and sometimes get nice achievement, Medical intervention and the one getting 7000 healing points were quite statisfying).

I think that with the pyro release we will most definatly see the same thing occur, teams of at least 5+ pyros, so the first 3 - 5 weeks, will be 'not nice' to play.

Dunno how you guys experience it, but since VALVe announced they are going to aid the Pyro, I noticed a slight increase in Pyro activity, as if they are 'already practicing'.

Any way, so far my thoughts and frustrations regarding this chapter.

I hope the achievements aren't as ridiculous this time. I don't think I'll ever get the all the medic achievements through regular play.

Oh well, at least I got the Blutsauger...

Yeah... recognized something similar as I'm playing less pyro in the last days as I normally did. There were always already a couple of pyros so I joined most of the time as a missing class. :/

I think I'll play medic when the pyro achievements come out to collect the medic ones.

It should be possible to get them, though I must say, healing 9 minutes to get me 79## heal points was very though, dunno if I will ever get the 10.000 achievement.

Another thing with the current was, that some were quite dependend on your healmate. For example, the medical intervention requires you to grab some one, but that is doable as it tests 'your' healing aim skills.

However the achievement were another person 'shoots to kill' while you aid him, are very dependent on your heal target's skill.
IMO, when you do achieve such an achievement, I don't think it is an achievement that 'you' got as it required lot of skill of other person.

Hope I got my point clear...

the medic achievements have been toned down before release xD
most of them are pretty easy to get for a regular medic.. and 8-10 are very hard even for the die hard career medics (or farmers) <3

They shouldn't all be easy to get, that doesn't make it feel like an achievement to me :(

I agree with you on this, and some are rather hard to get, but some also depend very much on the skill of the person which you are healing...

Hot off the presses comes news from Valve that the Pyro update is coming this Thursday! What's more is that the Meet the Sniper video will be made available tomorrow!
The main event of the week is the Pyro Update, which will be made available this Thursday and contains three unlockable new weapons for the Pyro plus 35 new achievements. In addition, two user-created maps are included to highlight the great work being done in the community and distribute those works to all TF2 players.

Meanwhile as folks wait for the Pyro Update to be released, the latest in the "Meet the Team" video shorts, "Meet the Sniper," will be made available tomorrow (Tuesday, June 17) at 11 am PDT along with a web site dedicated to the Pyro update.

Finally, to give everyone a chance to try the new weapons and community maps, Valve will hold another Team Fortress 2 Free Weekend via Steam, a leading online platform for the delivery and management of PC games. The Free Weekend is scheduled to begin this Friday at 11 am PDT.
Rejoice Pyro fans and fans of Team Fortress 2 in general. This new update is about to hit very shortly.
