suggestion might sound weird, but check if you can update the drivers for your system (video, audio, chipset)

So long and thanks for all the fish! (1771)

Rightclick the TF2 game in steam, go to the tab "Local Files" and then click "Verify integrity of game cache..."(1) After that run the "Defragment cache file..."(2)
That way you will make sure all your game files are intact (1) and that you don't have any useless files slowing gameplay (2)

Looks like the TF2 update just happends to be at the moment your pc is going mental. I dont think these are related.

Tried uninstalling your old drivers first?

This was the error message I got a three times yesterday. Each time TF2 crashed back to the desktop, but I could re-start if with no problems.

Have you tried to wipe the Windows temp files? Perhaps TF2 puts something there.

- Uninstall TF2 and Steam.

- Reboot

- Uninstall your Graphics drivers and run Driver Cleaner Pro (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745) to ensure that your drivers have been cleared fully.

- Reboot

- Download and install the latest Graphics drivers from Nvidia/ATI

- Reboot

- Re-install Steam and TF2

- Continue :)
