it's actually not a bad idea, i've had problems with that too, the MSN somehow.. overrides most of the sound settings and manages to fix it some times

yellow ure not alone dude...when i got my 5.1 sound system(logitec x-540) it worked fine fro maybe 2 weeks and then i got the same problem as your having

when i tested the speakers on the tester thingy they were all mixed up...but when i originally installed it the test thingy worked perfect..all speakers in the right locations..(i even bugged the hell outta my mrs with the buzzing bee option)and all my coloured wires matched up colour for colour(childsplay!)

so i messed with a few of the many plugs on the back of my 5.1 bass box(all the jacks(sat speakers) connect to this on mine)and are all colour coded.

now all my colours DONT match but my audio is working fine again.. even tho all the colours match on the back of my motherboard/sound device. :? :?

try switching the black and green 1"s on your bass box..thats wot solved mine.....also im unsure if you know(sorry if u do) that with a 5.1 surround sound system you will only here speech/talking from the centre speaker only......the satalite speakers are for surround sound only

gl man, mine had me scratchin my head for a few hours :?

If you have 5,1, you have to set your sound output to 5.1 (and not stereo), in which case the mumble sound will emerge from your center speaker. If you want it out from ALL speakers, set the sound system effect (and not the computer output) to "Stereo".
