So just 2 days and then one of the biggest games conventions will be held in Leipzig. Also the wednesday before there will be a "Games in Concert" event...

As you might have guessed I will be attending at both, we (me and 2 classmates) leave tomorrow morning to get to leipzig.

So basicly, in this topic:
  • Will you go the the GC in Leipzig
  • What do you hope to see at the GC
As for me, I read that Left 4 Dead will be present and 'maybe' also playable, and me hopes A LOT (but it is quite likely it will not) that there will be some info on Episode 3.

Apart from that We'll just see what is up there.

So what about you guys...

Sure, my friend takes his camera too, and he has youtube account(I understood it was video cam) so maybe we could include some vids too.

I'll see what I will come up with, was also planning on covering some on my blog.

Leipzig is still too far to travel there for one day (school :x ), but next year it is in Cologne, so I will be there for sure ... next year. :wink:

Cologne.. that's not even far for me 0_0 If only I speak some German.. oh wait I do.. now I need to find a reason not to go ;p

I think I'll go to the next one in Cologne. Me and DrChimRichels were going to go to the convention this year but it never happened. Unfortunately.

I'd certainly like to go anyway, I've heard good things about previous conventions. Certainly better things than I've been hearing about recent E3's...

Couldn't Lim-Dul go to this since he's press? Well? Could you Lim-Dul?

Gaming conventions are usually reserved for our senior editors... There's a slim chance I might be sent to this year's GDC since the IGF is an integral part of it and I'm the local indie-game expert. ^^

Hey, it's all good in the hood Lim. I'll go wherever the bitches are. Or in this case, where the games are.

Where is the GDC held anyway? Isn't that London? Or Birmingham? Or some other English city?

We will have a 6 hour drive going to their, so we go several days. On wednesday there is a games in concert event, and the tickets to that event are also tickets for the convention the next day, so we drive there tomorrow, thursday on and depending on how large the convention is, we might also go on friday.

Köln would also be better for us, as that is merely a 3 - 3.5 hour drive, ah well that will be next year.

My classmates already went last year, but I could not go then simply because I could not get free of my job I had back then, but now I still got 1.5 weeks of holiday left :D

We will leave "Groningen" round 10 am, so saying that we will have a 6 hour drive, we will be there 3 - 4 hours later, so round 1 - 2 pm...

We'll check the side of the road for a big 'blackhawk' curtain...

I must say it was a good convention. Köln is much closer, so I'll most likely go to the GC next year too.

Too bad that some lines for some games were just too long, cause I'd really would have liked to play Far Cry 2, Battlefield Heroes and Starcraft 2.

Wow, nice coverage Double J.

I'm really going to try and get to the next convention. Maybe me and my mates will make a road trip out of it too. Just get the ferry from Newcastle to the Netherlands then drive up to the convention. That would be sweet.

I'm also glad it will be in Köln next year. To there it is just a 3.5 hour drive, while Leipzig was 6 hours. But it was worth it.

Yes I have also heard this and various rumours.

The story I heard was this, this biu(or something) was going to move to Köln, yet the People at leipzig were saying they would keep the convention there.

As the article also explains there are still plannings for Köln(what is this city in english btw, I only know Dutch and German name...), as a city for a convention.

I'd rather see it in Köln for 2 reasons:
First -> It is much closer to where we live, as this is a mere 3 hour drive rather then a 6 hour drive.
Second -> been to the place more often as my brother lives there so I know various spots with good food for good price.

I know the following things:

* The name "Games Convention" is owned by the "Messe Leipzig" (um... Messe = fair, exhibition, whatever) and they are organizing another GC somewhere in asia.
* The peoples problem with Leipzig is that it's not "big" enough regarding the infrastructure (e.g. hotels).
* Therefore the group of the gaming industry behind the convention decided to move it to Cologne (Köln) as Cologne is much better suited for such an event.
* As the naming rights belong to the guys from Leipzig they wanted to form it under some fancy different name like "GameCon". o_O
* On the GC 2008 the visitors and press ppl voted for Leipzig to be the location again.
* Therefore the GC will be in Leipzig 2009 again. The date will be 19th–23rd August 2009.

1) Ok... from ppl from the west it's worse... but from ppl from the east it's better. For me Leipzig is a 1 1/2 hour drive. So if I'm still here next year I can give you a place to stay for one night. ;)

This just got announced to... looks like the one in Köln is going to be the one to go to next year... or we just visit all two if they aren't held at the same time.
