Come on, it's not like there are a billion popular ninja-game series out there, especially from the 80s :)

This series last entries (latest was in 2004) were not as well received as Ninja Gaiden's.

Seriously, Doomshine - I know what game this is but I'm tired of finding interesting yet lesser known games to post in the thread. :-P
I can PM you with the name if you don't believe me although you have given so many hints now that it doesn't matter anyway... ;-)

I know why you're mentioning the series - it has *something* to do with the Wii Virtual Console as well. :-P

Update: OK - I changed my mind since a "worthy" title just struck my mind and I want to have some laughs. ;-)

Your game is Shadow Dancer a.k.a. Shadow Dancer: The Secret of the Shinobi if you mean the console version - of course from the Shinobi series.

It looks shit tastic. Is looks like Daikatana.

Daikatana was rank. 79 years of hype for a game that was powered by the Quake 2 engine when everything else was being powered by the Quake 3 engine. Fail.

P.S. Daikatana wasn't that bad? OK - it's better than some budget titles BUT if you claim that it could have been a good or even mediocre game at any point in time I strongly urge you to watch its awesome "Let's Play" walkthrough.

However, I can confirm the title as well - even though it might be Hard Drivin' II - so we're waiting for the next game. ^^

Sorry, my pc crashed when I was posting the answer yesterday...

McMoist did indeed get it right, it's Hard Drivin' (the first one, arcade version).

Us west coast of scotland guys know all the arcade games :D

I used to play that in the Base Bowl in Saltcoats many a year ago. I didn't especially like it though...

I was more a Simpsons Arcade Game/Streetfighter 2/Super Sidekicks kinda child.

OK - I'm really stunned that the thread came to a halt after posting a title which, I presumed, would be a formality to guess.
