Also the fact that you cannot double click the 'tabs bar' to get a new tab but explicitly have to press the 'very' small + button.
Strange - I always use ctrl+t for that. ^^
Apart from these, I am missing some applications which I do use within Opera(I use opera :P), which are:
- Feed reader.
- IRC chat.
- Mouse move commanding.
- Session saving, so you can continue same session next time.
- and some others.
This, on my part, are things I absolutely have no use for and the main reason why I dislike Opera. I don't need dozens of useless features, some of which are a hassle to configure and/or turn off, I need a good plugin interface so I can customize my browser and that's why I choose FF. When Chrome has the same plugins I use in FF, I might give it a go. ^^
I'll list the FF plugins I'm currently using:
Adblock Plus - doesn't need explaining ^^ (two filter subscriptions)
Clone Window - a useful albeit forgotten plugin that sets the default behavior of new tabs (there are other needlessly complicated ones) - I like new tabs to be cloned (history, site etc.) just like new windows are cloned in IE
Copy Plain Text - useful for c&p text without formatting
CuteMenus Classic - useless plugin for displaying pwetty icons in menus =)
Deutsches Wörterbuch - FF native, alongside the English, Polish and French dictionaries - from what I gather more people should be using spellcheckers when writing posts :-P
Dictionary Switcher - automatically switches languages as I type MS Word et al. style
DownThemAll! - advanced download manager that can download certain file types off sites among other things - useful for downloading warez/pr0n ;-)
Firebug - HTML/Java Script/CSS debugger - no respectable web developer can live without it since it's probably the best one in the world :-P
FireFTP - a crap little FTP client - I got several others but I use it when I don't feel like launching anything else
Firesomething - my favorite useless plugin: rebrands the browser with words I choose myself. E.g. I'm currently using a Mozilla Junglemoose and my other window shows a Mozilla Cyberleopard. It could be somewhat useful if you want to rebrand the user-agent string for website spoofing and disguise yourself as e.g. Opera or IE
Google Pagerank Status - shows a small indicator in the status bar. SpecialAttack has a PR of 1. :-P
Greasemonkey - a very powerful and sometimes frowned upon plugin that allows you to alter the rendering of certain sites client-side. Needs additional scripts that can be downloaded from a vast library.
IE Tab - loads the IE rendering engine inside a FF tab without the need to launch this sucky browser. ^^
Image Zoom - enhances the image zooming capabilities of FF
Organize Status Bar - a small plugin to enable/disable and rearrange any items on the status bar
Paste Quote - couldn't live without this one - puts
tags around the pasted text - useful for any forum
Sage - simple RSS reader I rarely use anyway
Snap Links - now THIS is a plugin I couldn't live without. Allows you to open all links inside a drag-selection (customizable behavior). I should record a video how this one works - it allows me e.g. to open ALL new posts on SpecialAttack.net in separate tabs in a split second by drag-selecting :-P
Text Link - treats text links like normal links - double-click to open. Useful for downloading warez which are sometimes posted as unparsed text (many configuration options)
Other functionality is added by FF itself or I don't need it (even though plugins might exist for virtually anything - even emulating other browser's behavior).
P.S. In case you're wondering - all this stuff only adds 13 MB to the browser's memory footprint (43 MB vanilla, 56 with all the plugins) and Adblock Plus even REDUCES the memory usage by stripping sites of all those pesky ads - especially the ones written in Flash. =)
