Do you still have the box or case with the serial number of any game you registered on Steam? My account was hacked once as well (at least I think - I could log on and the "forgotten password" option didn't return any mails) but back then I used a far simpler password - I contacted Steam support and they sorted it out. Just pray that the guy in question doesn't get you VAC-banned because then Valve won't react to that anyway and your account will be pretty much useless... :-\

Steam accounts don't get hacked. You have probbarly either logged in on a phony website or your infected with a Trojan/keylogger.

Please ensure your system is completeley free of any possible keyloggers or Trojans. (http://free.grisoft.com).

Change your steam account password after you've cleaned up your system.

Yeah - I was probably infected back then because these were happy times when I thought to be too 1337 to use any anti-virus software. ;-)
Another possibility was that one of my forum accounts was hacked because I used my "non vital" password in the Steam Account - that is, the password that I always use when I sign up for something for like one day. ;-)

Seems like this guy is trying to scam everyone on the friends list. [SpA]Cherry Red just dropped me a line with that URL too... Fortunatly, I was able to see that the site was a scam quite easily. One of the headlines said "STEAM's BIRTHDAY HERE/h1>" for instance...

Yeah, their data is totally wrong (steam is not 5 years old anymore), nobody uses a domain like "gg" for serious purposes, especially not Valve, and if you look at the button with the remaining accounts it always shows 103 and we all know that these would be gone in like one minute.

Not to mention the fact that the next site after you click on the button contains just three form fields: username, password, e-mail - LOL - why not the credit card number and the CVV2 while they're at it. ;-)

In my case all went quite smoothly - a couple of days tops. Valve has pretty funny people working in the support department and some prominent figures seem to reply to support tickets from time to time (perhaps certain messages are forwarded to them?) especially if they include some funny suggestions. =)

I don't know if their support is outsourced or carried out by people inside the company but it works well...
